Discover Route 9 in Pokémon X and Y! Learn how to use Rhyhorn to traverse spikes, break rocks, find hidden items like Fire Stone and Dusk Ball, and prepare for Sky Battles.

Alright, so you've made it to Route 9, also known as Spikes Passage. Before you can really get going, you'll notice some signs warning you about the terrain ahead. Don't worry, it's not as dangerous as it sounds – you're about to get a cool new way to travel!

Walkthrough
  1. 1
You'll see signs indicating that a Rhyhorn is needed to cross the spike-filled terrain. Head down to the Rhyhorn waiting nearby and interact with it to hop on. Now you can ride over those spikes! Think of the spikes like tall grass; you can still encounter wild Pokémon while riding.
  2. 2
As you ride, you'll come across large rocks. Just ride into them, and your Rhyhorn will smash right through. Keep going until you reach an area without spikes.
  3. 3
Once you're in the clear, interact with another rock to break it. After that, press the B button to dismount. Head up the nearby stairs to find an X Defense. Grab it and then remount your Rhyhorn.
  4. 4
Head back onto the spikes and continue north. Look for a clearing to the north-east. Ride over there, break the rock blocking the path, and dismount again. This time, you'll find a Paralyze Heal. If you want to explore a bit, you can head east along a thin path from here to find a hidden Fire Stone – definitely worth grabbing!
  5. 5
Remount your Rhyhorn and head west, then north, breaking any rocks that are in your way. When you reach the next clearing, don't get off just yet. Keep riding north to the clearing after that.
  6. 6
In this final clearing, you'll find a rock blocking some stairs. Break it with your Rhyhorn, then dismount and head up the stairs. Follow the path around to find a Dusk Ball.
  7. 7
Now, if you head up the stairs opposite a trainer, they'll challenge you to a Sky Battle. Just a heads-up, you'll need a Flying-type Pokémon or one with the Levitate ability to do this. If you're not ready, no worries. Head back down to your Rhyhorn and ride back to the previous clearing.
  8. 8
You'll find a woman in this clearing who can heal your Pokémon for free. Make sure to visit her whenever your team needs a rest. After you're all healed up, it's time to head into the cave nearby.
Tips
  • Don't forget to explore off the main path; hidden items like the Fire Stone can be really useful!
  • Remember that the spike fields can still spawn wild Pokémon, so be prepared.
  • If you're not equipped for a Sky Battle, it's okay to skip it for now and come back later.
  • The woman who heals your Pokémon is a great resource, so make a mental note of her location.
