Route 18

Your complete guide to Route 18 in Pokémon X and Y, featuring trainer battles, item locations, Pokémon encounters, and tips for navigating the area.

The world’s been saved, but you’re not the Champion yet! This new area requires you to follow the path south. When you reach the signpost saying ‘18’, turn on your Dowsing Machine to find the Poké Ball nearby. Instead of taking the dirt path as it bends east, keep going south. You’ll encounter Youngster Jayden.

Trainer Battle: Youngster Jayden

From there, head south and jump over the ledge. Grab the Hyper Potion there, then head through the tall grass back around to the Youngster. Head north-east from him. You’ll see a bush that can be Cut. Do so and head down the path you opened up. You’ll find a berry tree that drops a Wacan Berry. Pick it up.

You can also skate along the rail down to the area below. Do so and you’ll find a PP Up at the bottom. Head south and jump over the ledge and through the tall grass. From there head up the stairs leading east. You’ll find Hiker Orestes.

Now head north into the building there. Here you’ll find a Psychic that partakes in Inverse Battles. In these battles, type match-ups are switched. The Psychic will be fairly powerful, so be wary. You can come back at later times and challenge him repeatedly. Once you’re done head back outside. Now use your Dowsing Machine to find the Ether next to the house. You can now head west, back toward where you were. If you do, you’ll find that there’s a Battle Girl pacing back and forth across the bridge.

Head back east over the bridge. Head further east to the minecart tracks. Follow them south. Now head back down the stairs and head south until you reach the dead end. When you do, Sky Trainer Jeremy will challenge you.

Once he’s defeated, head back north. When you see the track leading east, follow it. There’ll be an item nearby. Pick it up to find that it’s a Max Ether. Now walk back to where the hiker was and head down the stairs. Head south from there, with your Dowsing Machine on. You should be able to use it to find the nearby Super Potion.

Next, walk back to the path and head south through the flowers. You’ll come upon Lass Sara.

Once she’s defeated, walk back into the flowers you just passed through and use your Dowsing Machine to find the Honey hidden here. Now head over and break the breakable rock just east of her with Rock Smash. Now walk through and over the track. Walk beneath the track above you until you reach Black Belt Yanis. Fight!

Go and grab the X Defense east of the Black Belt. That’s it for the route! Feel free to enter the mine, known as Terminus Cave if you want. If not then skip ahead to Couriway Town!
