Discover Pokémon, trainers, and items on Route 22 in Pokémon X and Y. Prepare for your first Gym battle with this detailed walkthrough!

Alright, so you've made it to Route 22! This little detour is actually super useful for getting some extra experience before you head into your first Gym battle. Let's make the most of it!

As soon as you start on this route, you'll run into your first trainer. Keep your eyes peeled and get ready!

Trainer Battle: Rising Star Louise

  • Psyduck (Level 6, Water)
  • Litleo (Level 7, Fire/Normal)

After Louise, you'll see a Lass. Don't let her catch you off guard!

Trainer Battle: Lass Elin

  • Goldeen (Level 6, Water)
  • Marill (Level 6, Water/Fairy)

Keep following the path. You'll spot two trainers up to the north, but they're not interested in a fight right now. Just keep going until you find another trainer who *is* ready for a battle.

Trainer Battle: Rising Star Loic

  • Riolu (Level 9, Fighting)

Pro-Tip: If you've got a Flying-type Pokémon like Pidgey or Fletchling, Riolu is weak against them!

Now, head into the bushes just below Loic. There's another trainer waiting for you there!

Trainer Battle: Schoolboy Rabbie

  • Pidgey (Level 7, Normal/Flying)
  • Metapod (Level 5, Bug)

After Rabbie, head to the right, out of the grass. Then, go south. You'll find another trainer who's eager for a battle.

Trainer Battle: Schoolgirl Mackenzie

  • Bunnelby (Level 8, Normal)

From Mackenzie, keep heading south. You'll see a ledge to your left. Don't jump over it yet! Instead, continue south, past the stairs. You'll encounter one more trainer down here.

Trainer Battle: Lass Elsa

  • Flabebe (Level 8, Fairy)

Okay, you can't go any further south right now, and there's not much else to do in this direction. Heading east up the stairs will lead you to a woman who's blocking your path. You won't be able to get past her until you've collected all eight Gym badges, so don't worry about her for now.

Your best bet is to head back to Santalune City and challenge Viola. Oh, and make sure you jump back over the ledges to get there! If you don't, you'll miss out on finding a Super Potion. Once you're back in the city, it's time to take on the Gym Leader!
