It's named after Junichi Masuda, one of the folks who makes these games, and it's all about increasing your chances of hatching a Shiny Pokémon.

Normally, finding a Shiny Pokémon is incredibly rare – we're talking odds of about 1 in 4,096, or roughly 0.0244%. That's super low! You could battle hundreds of wild Pokémon and still not stumble upon one. While there have been other methods introduced over the years, like special items or chaining, the Masuda Method is pretty much the easiest way to go about it, especially if you're aiming for Shiny starter Pokémon.

Here's the lowdown: you need two Pokémon for breeding, and they absolutely must be from different regions. You can tell which region a Pokémon is from by looking at the abbreviation on its status screen – yours will usually be blank, while a foreign one will have something like 'JAP' or 'KOR'. The easiest way to get a foreign Pokémon is often through the Wonder Trade. A lot of players from the US use it, so if you're elsewhere, you've got a good chance of getting something foreign, and vice versa!

Once you have your two Pokémon from different regions, just put them in the Nursery together. Breed them like you normally would. That's literally it! There's no special trick to the breeding itself. If all you're after is a Shiny, you don't need to worry about IVs, natures, or specific moves right now – just focus on the breeding. This method bumps up your Shiny odds to about 1 in 1,366, which is roughly three times better than just randomly breeding or hunting!

Pro Tip: Keep an eye on Wonder Trade! It's a fantastic way to snag those foreign Pokémon needed for the Masuda Method. Players from the US often get foreign Pokémon about 40-50% of the time, so it's a great resource.
