BOSS FIGHT! — The Giant Leech

Alright, so you've made it to the Giant Leech. Don't let the name fool you, this thing is a serious threat, but we can get through this. It's a bit of a unique boss, as it's actually pretty passive unless you're right on top of it. If you move too far away, it'll actually lose interest and wander off. Kinda weird, right?

Attacks and Strategy

The Giant Leech has a couple of main ways it can mess you up. First, there's a headbutt attack that hits hard, especially on HARD difficulty where it can do up to 450HP damage. Then there's the poison it spits. It doesn't do a ton of damage on its own, but there's a 20% chance it'll inflict the POISON status, so be ready to cure that if it happens.

Your main goal here is to deal enough damage. You can shoot it, of course, but there are some environmental advantages you can use. See those three ceiling valves before the pipe? Each one of those will do about 300HP damage to the Leech when activated. Try to lure it near them!

If you're shooting the pipe, that'll usually do around 2000HP damage. If it's still hanging around after that, you'll need to lead it further into the next tunnel section and find more ceiling valves.

Here's a pro-tip: if you can manage to get the Leech back to where the boat was docked, you have a couple of options. If you're going for that NO WEAPON BONUS, you can actually stomp it to death. Or, if you're not worried about that, you can examine and then shoot the Gas Can. That thing does a massive 9000HP damage and will instantly kill the Leech on any difficulty except VERY HARD. Pretty neat, huh?

Remember, stay at a medium range. Too close and you risk that heavy headbutt, too far and it might lose interest. Keep your wits about you, and you'll take this overgrown worm down in no time!
