Master the battle system in chrono cross the radical dreamers edition: understand standard attacks, chaining, elements, defending, and running away.
Walkthrough
- 1Standard Attacks: You can choose from 3 levels of attacks: 1 (weak), 2 (strong), and 3 (fierce). Higher level attacks deal more damage but have a lower initial hit rate. Each attack consumes Stamina equal to its level (e.g., 3 Stamina for a fierce attack).
- 2Chain of Attacks: After performing an attack, if you have remaining Stamina, you can choose another attack. This can continue until you reach 0 Stamina. Characters have a maximum of 7 Stamina.
- 3Hit Rate Increase: Each successful hit during a chain of attacks slightly increases the hit rate for all attacks. The game recommends chaining weak, strong, and fierce attacks in that order.
- 4Ending a Turn: A character's turn automatically ends when they reach 0 Stamina. You can also prematurely end their turn by choosing “Defend” to save Stamina.
- 5Elements: Elements are like magic spells and consumable items combined. To use an Element, it must first be allocated to a character’s Element Grid (equipped).
- 6Elemental Power Level: Using standard attacks increases your character’s Elemental Power Level (shown as “Level”). The Level increases by the amount equivalent to the standard attack’s level (e.g., 3 for strong attacks).
- 7Using Elements: With an increased Elemental Power Level, you can use any Element from the Element Grid up to that Level. For example, if your Elemental Power Level is 4, you can use any Element from Level 1, 2, 3, or 4 positions.
- 8Element Cost: Using an Element costs 7 Stamina and immediately ends the character’s turn. After using an Element, your Elemental Power Level will be reduced by the Element’s position value (e.g., using a Level 4 Element reduces your Level from 4 to 0).
- 9Defend: Choosing to defend reduces incoming damage by 50% and allows you to regain Stamina. This is useful against tough enemies or when low on HP.
- 10Run Away: You can choose to run away from any battle, including boss fights, with a 100% success rate.
Tips
- Initially, Leena’s fierce attacks have a 65% hit rate, but after performing a weak and strong attack, the hit rate can rise to 87%.
- Chaining a weak, strong, and fierce attack is generally a good guideline to follow for increasing hit rates.
- Defending is a wise maneuver when your character is low on HP or you predict a powerful attack.
- Remember that running away allows you to fight another day, even from bosses.
