This guide details how to reach the Library within Viper Manor in Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition. It covers the initial foyer puzzle, basement escape, jail area Mimic fight, East Wing basement loot and encounters, and the Neo-N-Bulb boss fight.
Walkthrough
- 1Foyer: Upon entering Viper Manor, you'll find a large door ahead and side gates. The large door is blocked, the left gate is obstructed, and the right gate leads to traps. Inspect the snake statue to the left of the big door and manipulate it by turning it left and right. This will trigger a booby trap, sending you to the basement.
- 2Basement: You'll be captured and fall into a cage in the basement. If Kid is in your party, she will provoke the guards to open the cage for a fight. Otherwise, shake the cage until Kid arrives and frees you. After escaping the cage, you will fight two guards. Your party will then steal guard uniforms to sneak around, though monsters will still attack. Head down the steps to the jail area.
- 3Jail: In the jail area, open the blue chest to trigger a Mimic battle. You must attack the correct Mimic (either the big or small one). If successful, the battle ends instantly, and you receive a random Element. If you guess wrong, you can Run Away and try again. Exit back to the cage area and then go right.
- 4East Wing - Basement: You'll encounter a door guarded by guards. If Kid is not in your party, she will have already knocked them out. A robot blocks the path to the right. Past the door is the treasure vault. Loot the armors at the top for a Bronze Sword, Bronze Mail, and Hero's Shield (equippable only by Pierre). Inspect the golden vase on the right to fight a Potty enemy and get a Turn Red Element. In the blue box below, there's another Mimic fight; attack the correct enemy for a random Element. Inspect the necklace on the wall to obtain a Silver Pendant and trigger a booby trap.
- 5Boss Fight: Neo-N-Bulb: On the other side, you'll meet Luccia, who unleashes monsters as part of an experiment. You must fight two Neo-N-Bulb enemies. These are relatively weak and can be defeated with Auto-Battle. Yellow Elements like Electro-Jolt are effective. Be cautious of their Bushbasher attack, which can inflict Poison; bring Antidotes. After the fight, leave the lab via the bottom exit.
- 6East Wing - Basement (Continued): Back in the corridor, you can fight the robot in the middle to open a path back to the giant cage area. This robot is strong, so ensure your party is at full HP. Use Green Elements for maximum damage. To the right of the lab is a door with an eye monster. Trying to enter while the eye is looking results in a fight with a Portalgheist. You can sneak past if your timing is good, or press a button to disable encounters. In this room, grab the Decor Shield from the wall above a snake statue. Place this shield on the suit of armor missing one, which will trigger an ambush by five Man-O-War enemies. These are Black innate, so White Elements are effective. Focus on defeating them one by one. Moving the second snake statue parallel to the one above the Copper Helmet chest reveals a secret passage.
