How to Recruit Mel

So, you want to get Mel on your team? Unlike some of the other characters, recruiting her is pretty straightforward. It all kicks off after you've helped Doc out with the Hydra Humour in Guldove and Kid's taking a well-deserved rest. Mel, being Mel, decides to 'borrow' Kid's Elements!

The next day, Kid will notice her Elements are missing. When the game asks what you want to do, you'll need to pick the options that lead you to chase after Mel. Specifically, choose “You need those Elements” and then “No, let’s go after Mel”. This is your cue to track her down. Head to the Dragon Shrine, the same place you visited the Shaman earlier, over on the westernmost screen. You'll find a man guarding the entrance; he'll tell you Mel isn't there, so don't waste your time searching the shrine itself.

Your next stop is the residential tower, which is just two screens to the right on the same level. Once you're there, Korcha will hatch a plan to corner Mel. After the little chase, Mel will give up and return the Elements to Kid. With that sorted, you can leave Guldove and head back towards Termina.

Later, after you've snagged the boat from Korcha and can sail the seas freely, make your way back to Guldove. It's important that Kid is in your party for this next step. Visit Mel again in her room on the bottom floor of the residential tower. She'll have a heart-to-heart with Kid, and once that's done, you'll get the Guldovian Stitch frame and Mel will officially join your crew!
