Hey there! As you start your journey in Ni no Kuni II, you'll quickly discover that getting around and finding extra things to do is a big part of the fun. Let's break down how exploration works so you can make the most of your time!

Trip Doors

You'll start noticing these glowing blue lights popping up from the ground as you explore. Think of these as your fast travel points! The game will properly introduce you to them in Chapter 2. Whenever you see one, just walk up to it and press the [X] button when the prompt appears. This 'remembers' the Trip Door for you. Once it's remembered, you can teleport to it from pretty much anywhere in the game. To open up the map and choose where to go, just press the [Options] button twice, or hold it down. Keep in mind that bigger towns and dungeons will have several of these handy Trip Doors scattered around.

Optional Content

Once you've progressed a bit in the main story, you'll unlock sidequests. These pop up all over the place, but you'll find most of them in the major towns and, of course, in your own kingdom. The easiest way to spot them is by looking at your map – any exclamation points you see indicate a sidequest giver. While you can tackle most sidequests as soon as they appear, some might require items or abilities you won't get until later in the game, so don't get discouraged if you can't complete everything immediately.

Beyond sidequests, Ni no Kuni II has other cool optional stuff. You'll encounter something called Swift Solutions, which lets you take on Errands. These are basically fetch quests that reward you with Tokens of Gratitude. You can then take these tokens to the Swift Solutions NPC to recruit new citizens for your kingdom or trade them for useful items. You might also stumble upon locked doors in some dungeons. These are called Dreamer's Doors, and they lead to randomized dungeons known as Dreamer's Mazes. The challenge here is that the enemies get tougher as a meter called 'Danger Level' increases. These mazes are tied to a sidequest, and the rewards can be pretty great if you're up for the challenge!
