Master aerial exploration in Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom! This guide covers the Shrine that Time Forgot, the Frozen North, and uncovering hidden treasures with your airship.
Alright, let's talk about getting around in Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom, specifically when it comes to taking to the skies! This section, 'Taking It to the Skies,' is all about exploring those areas you can only reach by airship. We'll cover a couple of key spots: the Shrine that Time Forgot and the vast Frozen North. Get ready to find some cool stuff!
Shrine that Time Forgot
First up, we have the Shrine that Time Forgot. You know those ruins you might have spotted near a chest? Well, if you've got the Rejuvenate spell from your Spellworks facility in Evermore, you can actually restore them! Once it's fixed up, you can head inside. Don't worry too much about the enemies; they're only in their mid-40s, so you should be pretty safe.
As soon as you enter the first room with enemies, make your way to the northern side. You'll find a chest there containing 2 Rook’s Brocades. The path ahead splits, so let's head east first. You'll find more enemies and a higgledy stone. This little guy needs a bolt eagle feather. If you've been stocking up on resources at Evermore, you might have one! If you give it to him, he'll call in Boss-Woss the Bruiser to join your cause. For the last chest in this shrine, take the southern path at the split and head to the southwestern room. Inside, you'll find a Windproof Liberator’s Cloak.
Exploring the Frozen North
Now, let's head north of Broadleaf to a chilly place: the Frozen North. You might have gotten a glimpse of this area before while doing other tasks around Broadleaf. The main challenge here is that the enemies are a bit tougher than usual, so battles can get dicey. The good news is that your airship is super handy here, letting you land right next to chests and other points of interest, meaning you can often skip the fights altogether!
Pull up your map and find the Chattertooth Ridge area. That's where the trip door you likely activated earlier is. From there, head northeast to a place called Coldera – look for the enclosed area on your map. Fly your airship there to find another Trip Door.
Once you've landed at Coldera, there's not much else to see right there. So, let's look directly south of Coldera on your map. You'll find the eastern coast of Chattertooth Ridge. Down at the southern end of this coast, there's a chest waiting for you with 3 Frostyfluff Cottons. Now, head east from Coldera. You'll find some landmass with another chest tucked away in the southwestern corner, containing 3 Nocturnium Nuggets. Keep going to the northern tip of this little area, and you'll spot a blue chest holding a set of Hearty Robes of Wisdom.
West of Coldera, you'll find something called a Crash Site. Just north of that site, there's more land. See how Coldera and this northern piece of land are separated by an ocean rift? Follow the coast of that northern landmass along the rift, starting from the Crash Site. Eventually, you'll stumble upon a shrine – this is the Shivery Shrine, and there's even a Trip Door right outside it!
Be warned, the enemies inside Shivery Shrine are as high-level as the ones outside. However, if you can manage to sneak into the second room, you'll find a level 52 Tainted Monster called Doombo. This guy hits like a truck, but there's a trick: you can actually 'cheese' the fight using ranged attacks, especially if you have some strong ranged weapons. If you manage to defeat Doombo, you'll get a Venomous Blackwing Bow. Plus, there's a chest on the southern end of that room with a Shiny Hearty Pendant. A bit further in (and thankfully, with no more enemies besides that first room), you'll find a save point and a Dreamer’s Maze. Since these mazes usually have enemies around the same level as the surrounding area, it's probably best to save this one for later.
Exit Shivery Shrine and follow the northern coastline as it heads west. This will lead you to another blue chest containing a Chilly Hailstorm Harpoon. You might have noticed some enemies up north on the big ice floes. On the largest ice piece directly north of you, check the southeastern corner for a chest with an Awesome Antifreeze Pendant.
Keep flying west. Just before you reach the next set of ice chunks, right when the northern shore opens up to more land, you should find another cave called Glacial Grotto. There isn't a ton inside, but you'll find a chest with 3 Seraphic Silks and a sparkle. Back outside, head northwest of the cave. You'll find a level 42 Tainted Monster on one of the ice pieces – it's Gaialith. Considering its level, go ahead and take it down to earn yourself an Omniproof Daredevil’s Armor. Now, cross the ocean rift to the southwest. On the biggest ice floe in this area, there's another chest towards the southern bend, holding a Sage’s Secret. Just east of that chest, on the mainland itself, is one more chest containing a Necklace of Insight.
Feeling curious about that Crash Site? Let's head back there. On the westernmost tip, you can land your airship right next to a chest containing a Deadly Crimson Halberd. Now, go to the northern edge of the wreckage and follow it east. You'll find another chest nestled close to the mountains, which holds a Blinding Ring. Get back on the wreckage and continue east, all the way to the end. Just north of the engine there, you should spot a chest with a Savior’s Tear. Look a little northeast to see the ocean rift. Follow the southern of the two coastlines along the rift, and you'll find another chest on the ledge north of Coldera – it’s a Shiny Mage’s Ring.
We're almost done with this area! Head back to the western side of the Crash Site, staying on the southern edge of the wreckage. There's a chest along the wreckage, a bit west of that large wing-like structure sticking out of the southern side. This one has 3 Shivering Wonderwaters. For the last three chests, we need to head to the Permafrost Plains area. Look for three clumps of rocks on your map in that area. The chest you're looking for is on the southern side of the middle cluster, containing Anti-Nixing Strongbox Boots. Northwest of that spot, you'll find another set of ruins that can be restored with Rejuvenate – this one is called Ice House. Unfortunately, the enemies inside are high-level, so it's best to leave this one for later. From Ice House, follow the mountain south and then east until you reach the southeast corner. There, a chest is hiding amongst the trees, holding 3 Radiant Radishes.
