Understand the Hero Gauge (Bezels) in Resonance of Fate, how to gain shards, and what happens when you go Critical.
Walkthrough
- 1The team's health and ability to act are shown by the Hero Gauge, which contains Bezels.
- 2At the start of Resonance of Fate, the gauge has 3 Bezels. By the end, you can have 14 Bezels if you find all the shards. More Bezels can be gained in New Game +.
- 3Each additional Bezel requires four Bezel shards.
- 4Bezel shards are found by beating bosses (including optional Challenge battles) and by placing Energy Hexes on the world map to uncover hidden treasures.
- 5Bezel Shards are NOT rewards for completing optional missions.
- 6Bezels are used when a hero action is taken, such as running or jumping with a character, costing one Bezel.
- 7A tri-attack (a cooperative attack) uses one Bezel and allows everyone to act.
- 8Standing still to attack or using a healing item does not deplete Bezels.
- 9Bezels are replenished when an enemy is attacked and a body part is broken or destroyed.
- 10Killing all enemies restores all Bezels.
- 11If you use up all Bezels, the team enters the CRITICAL condition, preventing any Hero actions. The music changes, and characters will cower.
- 12Enemies can also cause the CRITICAL condition by attacking.
- 13Scratch damage, shown as blue on the green health bar, is temporary and can be healed quickly with items or slowly by making hero actions or tri-attacks.
- 14If scratch damage is not healed and reaches 0, an enemy attack will shatter the bezel gauge.
- 15You lose one Bezel per 1,000 HP for the character when the bezel gauge is shattered. The character will be healed when this occurs.
- 16Lost bezel shards will be spread around the battlefield, and enemies will chase and pick them up, healing themselves, especially if their HP is low.
- 17If you retrieve 4 broken white shards, you can restore the shape of one Bezel, allowing it to be filled again if you successfully destroy an enemy.
- 18The CRITICAL condition makes everyone vulnerable. If one character suffers a powerful attack with no more Bezels to provide healing, it is game over.
- 19To recover from this state, you can stand and shoot (hoping to gain a Bezel back), retreat and redo the battle (for a cost), or reload the game.
Tips
- Be mindful of your Bezel count, as running out leaves you vulnerable.
- Prioritize healing scratch damage to prevent bezel gauge shattering.
- Collecting Bezel shards is crucial for increasing your maximum Bezels.
- Consider the risk versus reward when deciding whether to fight or retreat when in a Critical state.
