Discover the best perks for your Fallout: New Vegas build! Explore versatile options, combat-focused suggestions, and utility perks to dominate the Mojave.

Alright, let's talk perks in Fallout: New Vegas. The Ultimate Edition gives you a ton of them, which is awesome! This guide breaks down some solid choices to make your character really shine, whether you're blasting from afar or getting up close and personal. Remember, the SPECIAL stats and perks work together to make a character who's great with Guns at range and with Unarmed/Melee Weapons up close. We'll also look at some fun ways to spend those extra perk points to really customize your playstyle.

Here's a look at some suggested perks as you level up:

2Black Widow (etc.)20Them’s Good Eatin’36Grim Reaper’s Sprint
4Comprehension22Piercing Strike38Bloody Mess
6Toughness (1)24Slayer40Living Anatomy

14Hand Loader32Math Wrath48Optional (3)
16Better Criticals34Silent Running50Ain’t Like That Now, (etc.)
18Commando

Quick Tip: At level 4, grab either Comprehension or Educated. If you're playing on Hardcore mode, make sure to pick up Them’s Good Eatin’ at level 20. It’s a lifesaver for stocking up on healing items early on. If Hardcore isn't your thing, the perk order after level 4 is pretty flexible, so pick what you like!

Build Suggestions:

Agile Assassin

Want to be a critical hit machine? Grab Light Touch, Cowboy, and The Professional. This combo makes revolvers like the Ranger Sequoia absolutely deadly when you're up close and sneaky. While the Gobi Campaign Scout Rifle is great at range, a +25% damage boost from a Brush Gun up close is nothing to scoff at. This build is for the true Pistoleros out there!

Chrono-Crusher

This build focuses on slowing down time. Get two ranks of Implant GRX and the Chemist perk. This essentially gives you a built-in, rechargeable supply of Turbo, letting you slow time up to ten times a day. It's super useful in tough fights! The only real downside, besides using up three perk slots, is that you have to manually activate each dose from your Pip-Boy. Every. Single. Time. Also, don't even think about trying to combine this with the trait-that-shall-not-be-named; the trade-off in HP, Perks, and Skill Points just isn't worth it, and you can't use The Sink's Auto-Doc to get it after level 50.

Duke Destructo

If you love explosions, go for Mad Bomber and as many ranks of Demolition Expert as you can get. You might also want to pick up Hit the Deck. Depending on how much you lean into explosives and how accurate you are, this could take up to five perk slots.

Energy Elitist

For those who love zapping foes, take the Laser Commander, Plasma Spaz, and Meltdown perks. They might not be the absolute best, but if you're committed to Energy Weapons, these will definitely beef them up.

Shotgun Smiter

Want to absolutely wreck everything with shotguns? Pick up Shotgun Surgeon and And Stay Down. Then find yourself a Riot Shotgun and have a blast!

Ultima Utility

This build is all about carrying capacity. Grab 'Urden to Bear, Strong Back, and Pack Rat. This lets you haul a ton of loot. In Hardcore Mode, Pack Rat is especially great, doubling the amount of ammo and food you can carry.
