This guide covers exploring the areas around Searchlight in Fallout: New Vegas, including Searchlight Airport, Searchlight East Gold Mine, Fire Root Cavern, Cottonwood Cove, and Blue Paradise Vacation Rentals.

1. Searchlight Airport: Head east from Camp Searchlight, south through town, and under the bridge to reach the airport. Beware of Radscorpions on the runway. Loot two Trunks near the control tower and an Ammo Box with two Metal Boxes under a plane on the west end.
2. Searchlight East Gold Mine: Located south-east of Camp Searchlight and north-east of Searchlight Airport. Enter the mine to find four Viper Gunslingers, including a leader, at the western end. Another group of four will attack upon exiting. Loot them for their gear, potentially including Grenade Rifles from leaders.
3. Fire Root Cavern: Found south-east of Searchlight East Gold Mine, along the cliffs. You can drop onto the ledge with the entrance or find a natural ramp to the east. Inside, head west to a ledge overlooking Fire Geckos. Safely eliminate them from the ledge, including a Legendary Fire Gecko. Follow the southern ledge to a tunnel that splits; head downhill and west to the watery cave. Harvest the Geckos. Return to the junction and search near the top of the ramp leading down to the Gecko lair to find an Evil Gnome collectible.
4. Cottonwood Cove: Exit Fire Root Cavern to the south to reach Cottonwood Crater, a moderately irradiated pond with Golden Geckos. Kill them and explore the rocky peninsula to the north-east. At the end, turn north to find a dead Prospector carrying a Fat Man.
5. Blue Paradise Vacation Rentals: Continue north from the dead Prospector onto the rocks surrounding the radioactive pond. Follow it clockwise towards the Colorado River. Descend the cliffs cautiously towards the river, watching for Lakelurks. Kill the Lakelurks and approach the submerged houses. Search the northern and middle houses for meager loot, including a Sunset Sarsaparilla Star Bottle Cap, a BB Gun, and two unopened bottles of Sunset Sarsaparilla. Swim east across the Colorado River to find a cave. The beaches are swarming with Lakelurks; approach from the north, using the hill overlooking the beach to eliminate them from a distance before heading south to the cave entrance.
