Camp Forlorn Hope vs. Nelson

Speak with Major Polatli at Camp Forlorn Hope Command Center and offer your assistance. He will direct you to help various officers.

Talk to Quartermaster Mayes. He needs you to find a squad of soldiers sent to secure supplies who never returned.

Fast-travel to HELIOS One and speak with Lt. Haggery. She saw the squad and sent them back with supplies, marking the supply crate's location with a GPS marker.

Head east from HELIOS One, cross the highway, and continue east into the hills. Kill any hostile creatures, such as Fire Geckos, that block your path.

Follow the map marker to the objective to find the patrol and the supply crate. Search the bodies; one has the Forlorn Hope Letter 1 and another has the Forlorn Hope Letter 8.

Loot the Camp Forlorn Hope Supply Crate to obtain the Camp Forlorn Hope Supply Shipment.

Warning: You will be attacked by three Recruit Legionaries after looting the crate. If you have a high Sneak skill and were hidden before looting, you may evade them. If you become [HIDDEN], they may turn neutral unless your reputation with the Legion is too low. You can ignore them or kill them stealthily to avoid Infamy.

Return to Quartermaster Mayes with the supplies.

Report back to Major Polatli. He will send you to assist Dr. Richards in the Medical Center with injured troops.

Talk to Dr. Richards. You will need to pass a [Medicine 20] check to prove basic competence.

Examine the soldier to the west and pass a [Medicine 35] check, or provide the necessary materials.

Treat the closest soldier with a [Medicine 50] check.

Treat the further soldier with a [Medicine 75] check.

Alternatively, you can substitute skill with chems and components. You will need three doses of Med-X, a Super Stimpak, Tweezers, a Medical Brace, Whiskey, a Bonesaw, and Surgical Tubing. A Medicine skill of 75 is recommended. Using a Today’s Physician magazine can boost your skill.

Talk to Dr. Richards again to receive praise.

Report back to Major Polatli. He will give you the final task: assist in the reclamation of Nelson. He will direct you to Sergeant Cooper to the south.

To progress Boone's quest, _I Forgot to Remember to Forget_, bring him along.

Fast-travel to Novac's Toxic Waste Dump and follow the road east to the outskirts of Nelson.

Speak with Ranger Milo and NCR Troopers observing Nelson. Identify yourself and pass a [Speech 35] check. If you fail, he will send you away. A subsequent attempt to speak with him about it will require a [Speech 45] check.

Ranger Milo explains that Legion Troopers are crucified in Nelson, demoralizing NCR Troopers and acting as hostages. He believes they cannot be saved and killing them removes a bargaining chip from the Legion.

If you have Psycho, you can pass a [Psycho] check to gain NCR Fame.

Accept the job and follow Ranger Milo east to high ground overlooking Nelson.

From the north-eastern end of the rock, look north-east to spot the NCR Troopers.

Warning: Attempting to rescue the NCR Troopers directly is extremely dangerous and considered suicide by Ranger Milo. However, this is a valid option if you wish to draw the attention of the Legion's forces in Nelson, which is necessary for the _Restoring Hope_ quest.

To complete the quest via the less direct route: approach the NCR Troopers and end their suffering. This will make the Legionaries hostile. If you maintain distance and use a weapon like the Ratslayer, you may remain undetected. Ranger Milo can handle any Legionaries that stray too close.
