Learn about First Strike, Brave Attack, and Consecutive Battles in bravely second. Consecutive battles increase reward multipliers.

First Strike

Whichever side acquires the first strike bonus is given a whole, free turn to act without the other side interfering. If your side acquires the bonus, this can make for a hefty advantage as you can batter the enemy senseless while they sit idly by. However, if the enemy gets the first strike, this can be particularly painful if your characters started the battle wounded. Try to ensure your party is close to full health before wandering around where there are enemies afoot.

Brave Attack

When your party or the enemy party is feeling brave, all corresponding party members will start the battle with an additional 1 BP. As with the first strike bonus, if you get this, you’ll be laughing as you can unleash a flurry of attacks on the first turn. Meanwhile, if the enemy is the one feeling brave, you should be worried. Fortunately, unlike an enemy first strike, you can at least do something by Defaulting on the first turn to stave off the enemy’s furry and build up BP for a counter-attack on subsequent turns.

Consecutive Battles

When enemies are said to lurk out of sight, nothing special will occur in the battle itself. But as soon as the battle ends, you’ll be thrust straight into a consecutive battle with no time to rest. The key thing to note is that between consecutive battles, your party’s current BP carries over. So if your character ended the first battle with -1 BP, they will start the next with -1 BP. Therefore, avoid overusing your BP during the first battle or you’ll be in a difficult situation in the second battle. You can also trigger a consecutive battle yourself by wiping out all foes in a single turn.

If you’re eligible, the game will prompt you to press the L button to begin the next consecutive battle or the B button to end the challenge and immediately collect your post-battle rewards. You can even chain consecutive battles by continuing to end battles in a single turn.

The main benefit of consecutive battles is that for each battle cleared, your reward multiplier will increase from 1.5 times for 2 consecutive battles to 1.8 times for 3 battles, then increments of 0.2 for every battle onward. Chaining battles is a great way to gain exp, etc. fast.
