Learn how to defeat Revenant Grace and his allies in Bravely Second's 'Battle at the Gaols' with our expert walkthrough, including boss stats, weaknesses, and a cheese strategy.
After exiting the Outer Keep, you’ll find yourself in the most south-west corner of the Skyhold. Just follow the short path ahead until you reach the Gaols, where Pope Agnes is being held prisoner. Head inside and approach the window to trigger a cutscene. Surprise! The Pope isn’t actually here, but you’ll encounter another terrifying asterisk holder instead!
Stats / Weaknesses:
- Revenant — Level 47, 50000 HP, Weakness: Light
- Imperial Guardshield — Level 47, 7050 HP, Weakness: Lightning
- Imperial Guardstave — Level 47, 7050 HP, Weakness: Nothing
- Imperial Guardsblade — Level 47, 7050 HP, Weakness: Lightning
Phases:
- Initial Assault: Revenant possesses his allies.
- Possession Escalation: Revenant starts possessing your party members.
- Finishing Blow: Defeat Revenant and his remaining allies.
Strategy:
- Revenant's main gimmick is Possession, where he transfers his HP and MP to an ally or one of your party members and takes control of them. You can force him out by dealing 1 or more damage to the possessed character.
- The Imperial Guardshield uses Phalanx, which counters single-target physical attacks against his allies.
- The Imperial Guardstave is dangerous because he can cast Stop or Thundaga. If you have the Time Mage job, consider giving your key party members Stop Immunity. Alternatively, the Magic Mirror ability can reflect Stop and Thundaga.
- The Imperial Guardsblade uses Trample, dealing more damage when his HP is higher.
- Focusing down the Imperials isn't always the best strategy, as Revenant will just summon more. It might be better to leave one alive, ideally the Guardstave if you can handle Stop, or the Guardsblade otherwise.
- Cheese Strategy: Equip at least one character with the Exorcist job (or as a secondary job) and the Undo Trois support ability for safety. Wait for Revenant to possess an ally. When he does, boot him out. If the Guardshield is still alive and Revenant has possessed the Guardsblade or Guardstave, use magic or a group attack to force him out. The crucial step: when Revenant possesses someone, his own body drops to 0 HP. Once he returns to his body after being kicked out, use Undo HP on him. This will revert his HP to the value it was during the possession turn (which was zero), effectively KOing him instantly. After Revenant is down, you can finish off the remaining henchmen.
Once the fight is over, you'll need to leave the Gaols and head back to the Outer Keep. If you need to rest or restock, speak with the Adventurer again. Then, make your way to the exit located to the right of the north-west stairs. You'll emerge on the west side of the Skyhold exterior. Continue following the path clockwise, passing through the next cannon house, and finally enter the large fortress to the north.
