Learn how to defeat Janne Angard in the Temple of Fire in Bravely Second. Get tips on his stances, weaknesses, and the best strategies to win.
Alright, so we're heading into the Temple of Fire. Remember how the crystal temples in the last game were always a pain with tough bosses? Well, up until now, Bravely Second's temples have been pretty chill, but that's about to change. Things are getting serious!
Before we dive in, make sure your party is set up just how you like it. If you had to mess around with jobs a lot getting through Geyser Grotto, now's the time to get back to your best setup. The Adventurer is hanging out to the west if you need any last-minute advice.
Ready? Head into the altar ahead and make a dash for the left side, towards that glowing crystal. Give it a look... something feels off, right? Yeah, you won't have much time to think about it because an old acquaintance is about to show up.
Boss: Janne Angard
Stats / Weaknesses
- Level: 34
- HP: 20000
- Weakness: None
Phases
- Phase 1: Aurochs Stance
Janne begins by using Stalwart Aurochs to enter defensive stances. While he's like this, physical attacks will be met with a Stampede counter. Stick to magic-based attacks during this phase. If your party's physical defense is high enough, you could try chipping away with physical attacks, but magic is generally safer and faster. - Phase 2: Wolf Stance
Once Janne drops below half HP, he'll use Blazing Wolf to switch to Wolf stance. Crucially, he keeps the defensive buffs from Aurochs stance. He'll then Brave for two hits and become immobile for one turn. This is your opening! Default to absorb the damage, then unleash everything you've got.
Strategy
- Focus on magic attacks during Janne's Aurochs stances to avoid his Stampede counter.
- Consider using Astral Magic to boost your party's physical defense if you plan on using physical attackers.
- When Janne switches to Wolf stance below half HP, he becomes vulnerable after a Brave attack. Use the turn he's immobile to heal or reapply buffs, then counter-attack fiercely.
- Don't forget to Default to mitigate damage from his Brave attacks in the second phase.
After you've dealt with Janne, head out of the Temple of Fire. Use a Teleport Stone to warp back to the entrance of Geyser Grotto. A cutscene will kick off outside, and you'll realize that to chase after the Kaiser, we need a new plan to cross the ocean to Florem. That little rowboat won't cut it, so it's back to Yunohana to figure things out.
