Bjorn is the very first boss you'll encounter in God of War Ragnarök, serving as an early combat tutorial. Despite its introductory nature, Bjorn, a large and quick bear, can still pose a challenge. This guide breaks down Bjorn's attacks and provides strategies for victory.

Bjorn's Attacks

• Swipe Combo: A series of three to four hits. The final hit is a guard breaker (yellow circle), which can be parried but not blocked. If your guard is broken, Bjorn follows up with another swipe.
• Lunge Grab: Similar to the swipe combo, this attack features a yellow circle and a lunge forward. Blocking will break your guard, leading to a grab and toss. It has a slow wind-up, making it parryable.
• Ground Smash: Bjorn rears up and smashes the ground (red circle). This attack is unblockable and can be avoided by evading backward or to the sides if you are close.
• Lunge Attack: Bjorn lunges forward with a red circle around his head. This unblockable attack involves a bite, requiring a quick button mash to escape. It's telegraphed and easy to dodge.
• Claw Swipe Flurry: Bjorn roars and performs a rapid claw swipe, followed by a slow-wind-up guard breaker. If your guard is broken, he may follow up with the red lunge attack. Block the initial flurry and dodge the final attack.

How to Defeat Bjorn

• Bjorn is relentless, so don't get greedy with your attacks. Aim for three to four hits before repositioning.
• Dodge attacks with yellow circles (guard breakers) and always dodge unblockable (red) attacks.
• Utilize Frost Awaken (hold "." while holding the Leviathan Axe) for extra damage and Frost application.
• When Bjorn's health is low, a cinematic will trigger, forcing you into Spartan Rage ("." + "."). Use this invincibility period to deal free damage. Spartan Rage also heals you as you attack.
• After depleting Bjorn's health, press "." to trigger the ending sequence.

Defeating Bjorn unlocks the A Grizzly Encounter trophy.
