In Plain Sight

Learn how to find and defeat the Soul Eater in the Western Plains of Vanaheim during the 'In Plain Sight' favor in God of War Ragnarök. Includes rewards and strategy.

To begin the 'In Plain Sight' favor, travel to the central part of the Western Plains in The Crater. You'll find a dead animal near a rock. Interacting with it triggers Kratos to notice unusual marks on the corpse, which Atreus identifies as the work of a Soul Eater, similar to those seen in the Volunder mines.

You can find more clues by interacting with other dead animals nearby, or you can directly locate the Soul Eater. It typically spawns in the marshy land east of the Celestial Altar. Look for a cluster of rocks with white lines. Be aware that an Ogre, Reavers, Wisps, and other lesser enemies often accompany the Soul Eater. It's advisable to clear these enemies first, though you might stumble upon the Soul Eater while fighting the Ogre.

God of War Ragnarök - How to Kill the Soul Eater

The Soul Eater fights similarly to others you've encountered. Its exposed core takes stun damage, but it's only vulnerable at specific moments. The Soul Eater can launch orbs from its core that can be thrown back for stun damage. However, using ranged attacks with the Leviathan Axe or Draupnir Spear is generally more effective. Once its stun bar is full, press L1 for a stun grab, then rapidly press Square or Triangle to punch or kick, dealing damage to its health bar. You'll likely need to stun and melee the Soul Eater two or three times to defeat it.

Most of the Soul Eater's attacks can be avoided with a block, parry, or dodge. Its beam attack can be blocked or dodged by rolling. Attacks indicated by a red ring must be dodged. You can interrupt red ring attacks with Runic Attacks or Relic/Sword Hilt abilities, but this must be done before the attack completes and often requires being in melee range.

Soul Eater Rewards

The Soul Eater drops valuable loot including XP, crafting materials, and unique items like Eir's Armament (an Amulet of Yggdrasil Enchantment) and the Hunter's Brand, which is needed to craft the Hunter Armor Set.
