Complete Neverwinter The High Captains walkthrough for Luskan. Learn how to get the High Captain's Seal and access the Host Tower of the Arcane.
Walkthrough
- 1Upon entering Luskan, speak to the NPC (non-player character — anyone the game controls, not you) on the bridge to learn about the city's control by Kurth and Baram, who are in dispute.
- 2Explore Luskan to find side quests and purchase goods.
- 3Visit the Temple of Tyr and speak with Aarin to learn that Lady Aribeth is missing. The Temple of Tyr is also where you will arrive if you use your Stone of Recall. Priests here can heal you, sell equipment, and you can retrieve lost quest items from the Diving Pool.
- 4To gain access to the Host Tower of the Arcane, you need a Diplomatic Pass, which requires a High Captain's Seal.
- 5Enter the Wink and Tickle tavern and speak to Bela to accept the side quest Strange Bedfellows.
- 6Go to the second floor. If you are male, speak to Rhaine in the locked room in the northeast corner. If you are female, speak to Oreth in the locked room in the southeast corner. Either NPC will give you a Key to Kurth's Base and a Key to Baram's Base, completing the Strange Bedfellows quest.
- 7Before entering Kurth's or Baram's bases, acquire the side quests Nine Lives and Saving Evoine, as they are intertwined.
- 8You can choose to enter Baram's Lair or Kurth's Base first. If you give Baram Kurth's head, you can still complete this part of the quest.
- 9To enter Baram's Quarter, go to the northeast corner of Luskan and cross the bridge. Enter the Sewers on the other side. This sewer can also be accessed through The Slums sewer.
- 10Speak to Baram. If you agree to kill Kurth, he will instruct you to go to Kurth's base. If you give Baram Kurth's head, you will be rewarded 562 XP, an amulet, and 1,000 gold.
- 11If you do not agree with Baram and wish to kill him, attack him. He will teleport away, and the gate he was guarding will open.
- 12Explore the sewers, fighting Ghouls and Curst Roges. A Wererat Captain, though weak, can lower your ability scores with a spell.
- 13Proceed north to find stairs guarded by a Yuan-Ti Necromancer. She is powerful, resistant to damage, and summons creatures. Search her remains for a Parchment, which updates your Journal for the High Captains quest.
- 14Explore Baram's Lair. You will find a Necromantic Summoning Portal to the north, a Spirit Shrine Ritual Portal to the east, and the Bone Spirit Ritual Portal to the west. The undead and Yuan-Ti Necromancers here are initially non-hostile.
- 15In the corridor to the right of the Bone Spirit Ritual, search a cocoon to find a Nanny (if doing the Nine Lives side quest). Talking to her may yield a Child's Bear to give to Londa.
- 16Go to the Bone Spirit room and kill the Revenant, who casts lethal spells. After defeating it, destroy the two Bone Transmitter Tablets on either side of the chamber to close the portal. The Zombies and one Yuan-Ti will become hostile; defeat the Yuan-Ti.
- 17Go to the Spirit Shrine room, defeat the skeletons, and then kill the Greater Mummy that emerges from the portal to close it. Defeat the remaining Yuan-Ti Necromancer. Search its remains for the Necromancer Journal and the Crypt Key.
- 18Use the Crypt Key on the door behind the Necromantic Portal. You will be attacked by High Captain Baram and his minions. Defeat them.
- 19After defeating Baram, search his remains to obtain his head, a Dagger +2, Studded Leather Armor +2, his Morningstar the Bone Pheonix, and the Boots of Speed.
- 20Explore the rest of the crypt, enter the final room, destroy the two gargoyle statues, and search the chests to obtain the High Captain's Seal.
- 21To enter Kurth's Base, go to the northwest corner of Luskan and cross the bridge to enter Kurth's Quarter. Enter the Sewers on the other side of the bridge.
- 22Speak to Kurth and listen to his side of the story. If you agree to kill Baram, he will instruct you to go to Baram's base and kill him.
- 23If you give Kurth Baram's head, you will be rewarded 562 XP, an amulet, and 1,000 gold.
- 24If you do not agree with Kurth and wish to kill him, attack him. He will teleport away, and the gate he was guarding will open.
- 25Explore Kurth's Lair. You will find a Necromantic Summoning Portal to the north, a Spirit Shrine Ritual Portal to the east, and the Bone Spirit Ritual Portal to the west. The undead and Yuan-Ti Necromancers here are initially non-hostile.

- 27Go to the Bone Spirit room and kill the Revenant, who casts lethal spells. After defeating it, destroy the two Bone Transmitter Tablets on either side of the chamber to close the portal. The Zombies and one Yuan-Ti will become hostile; defeat the Yuan-Ti.
- 28Go to the Spirit Shrine room, defeat the skeletons, and then kill the Greater Mummy that emerges from the portal to close it. Defeat the remaining Yuan-Ti Necromancer. Search its remains for the Necromancer Journal and the Crypt Key.
- 29Use the Crypt Key on the door behind the Necromantic Portal. You will be attacked by High Captain Kurth and his minions. Defeat them.
- 30After defeating Kurth, search his remains to obtain his head, a Dagger +2, Studded Leather Armor +2, his Morningstar the Bone Pheonix, and the Boots of Speed.
- 31Explore the rest of the crypt, enter the final room, destroy the two gargoyle statues, and search the chests to obtain the High Captain's Seal.
Tips
- It does not matter if you kill Baram or Kurth; both guard a seal needed for the Diplomatic Pass to the Host Tower of the Arcane. You can kill both and keep their heads.
- The Boots of Speed are highly recommended for melee characters due to their Haste enhancement, increasing movement and melee combat speed, and for magic users, they halve spell casting time.
