Complete the Free Nax side quest in Neverwinter by exploring Coldwood and the Wizard's Dungeon to find Nax and the Snow Globe.
Walkthrough
- 1Upon entering Coldwood, speak to Delvar to learn about the area and acquire side quests.
- 2Explore Coldwood and defeat Orcs. A Fireball spell can be effective against large groups.
- 3Locate Vaath in the south-east corner of Coldwood.
- 4Enter Deeper Coldwood to the north to complete the Star Sapphire quest (refer to that quest for details).
- 5Proceed into the Wizard's Circle and defeat the attacking Cult Archers and their leader.
- 6Search the leader's remains for a journal.
- 7Defeat Werecats on your way to the Wizard's Grove in the north-east.
- 8Enter the glowing portal in the Wizard's Grove to reach the Wizard's Dungeon.
- 9In the Wizard's Dungeon, destroy the braziers in the Fire Summoning Chambers (south-west and north-east corners) to prevent endless Huge Fire Elemental spawns. Destroying them yields minimal XP (4 XP per elemental at level 15) if side quests are completed.
- 10In the north-east library, search a shelf to find a Diary Page and the book "The Nature of Water Summoning".
- 11In the south-east corner, find another library with a prison to its left.
- 12Enter the prison and speak to Nax, who is trapped in a red glowing cell. You will receive the Free Nax side quest. Nax claims to have the Snow Globe and will give it to you if freed.
- 13Enter the room in the north-east and defeat the Shadow Fiends. Search corpses and chests for a Rakshasa's Eye and a Slaad Tongue.
- 14In an adjacent small room with bookshelves, an altar, and Alchemist Apparatus', search a shelf for laboratory notes containing a recipe. Open the chest to find Melf's Ring and a Quartz Crystal.
- 15Place the Quartz Crystal and Rakshasa's Eye on the altar and cast a Dominate Person spell on it. If you are a Sorcerer without this spell or a scroll, you must purchase a Rod of Beguiling from Eltoora in Beorunna's Well for a significant amount of gold. This rod grants immunity to mind-affecting spells.
- 16The ritual will cause the Staff of Command to appear on the altar. This staff is highly recommended for its immunity to mind-affecting spells.
- 17Go to the room right of the south-west Fire Summoning Chamber to find the Summoning Pool.
- 18Place a Slaad Tongue into the pool and use Melf's Ring to cast Melf's Acid Arrow on the pool. This will summon a Water Elemental.
- 19Speak to the Water Elemental and state you are there to free Nax. She will agree and free him.
- 20Speak to Nax, who appears beside you. He lied about having the Snow Globe. You can choose to kill him for deception (this results in a significant alignment shift for lawful good characters and grants 5 evil points if hostile) or let him go. Killing Nax provides a good fight with decent XP.
- 21To obtain the Snow Globe, go to the room right of the north-west Fire Summoning Chamber, which contains gongs.
- 22The Diary Page found earlier contains the sequence for unlocking the door in this room: Puma, Wolf, Bear, Dragon.
- 23Examine the gongs and bang them in the correct order (Puma, Wolf, Bear, Dragon).
- 24Enter the now open door and take the Snow Globe from the glowing pedestal.
- 25Return to the Drinking House in Beorunna's Well and give the Snow Globe to Lillian. You may attempt to persuade her for gold, but it requires a very high Persuade skill.
- 26Proceed to the second floor and enter the only unlocked door.
