Walkthrough for the Recover the Star Sapphire side quest in Neverwinter. Find Husher, explore Coldwood and Layenne's Tomb, and collect the necessary gems.
Walkthrough
- 1Speak with Husher in the Trading Post. Tell him you are searching for the Words of Power, ask what he means by that, and then agree to help to acquire this quest.
- 2Head into Coldwood, then enter Deeper Coldwood in the north-east. Kill all Zombies, Skeleton Warriors, and other undead creatures.
- 3In the north-east corner of the map, find the tomb marked by a map pin. Kill the Vampire Champion and enter Layenne's Tomb.
- 4Save often as there is no auto-save upon entering the tomb.
- 5In the long corridor, go through the first gate. Attempting to open the next gate will cause two doors on either side to open; kill the Lich Warriors that emerge.
- 6Enter the right room and take the Succubus Stone from a chest.
- 7Proceed through the now open gate. Another gate lies ahead; the one behind it is open, but the doors on either side will open, releasing two more Lich Warriors. Kill them.
- 8Go through the next gate and then head through the south-most door. This room contains five pedestals. The Star Sapphire is in the middle one. The four surrounding pedestals require four specific gems to release the Star Sapphire.
- 9Head through the south-east door to find a trapped Succubus making noise. Speak to her; she requires a gem, a necklace, and a ring to be freed.
- 10You have already found the Succubus Stone. You can give it to her now if you wish. If you give her the stone, she will offer to open all the doors in the tomb.
- 11Go to the north-east part of the tomb (two rooms above the trapped Succubus). Open the sarcophagus to find the Gem of Duty and the Succubus Necklace.
- 12GLITCH ALERT: Avoid entering the four small rooms where undead creatures emerge, as you may get stuck to the wall and be unable to move. If this happens, load your last save.
- 13Head into the room in the north-east corner and kill the Bone Golem Champion. Be wary of its lethal Cone of Cold breath. The Maximized Fireball spell is effective against it.
- 14Go through the door the Bone Golem was guarding. In this room with many chests, search a chest on the left for the Succubus Ring. Take the Gem of Honor from the sarcophagus in this room to trigger more enemies.
- 15Return to the trapped Succubus. You can give her the three items (or two if you already gave her the stone). If you give her one item, she can open all doors, give you a random magical item, or you can refuse any reward. Giving her a second item reduces the options to two. Giving her the third item frees her.
- 16After being freed, the Succubus becomes hostile. Kill her. She uses a deadly fire vortex spell; if a swirling circle of flames surrounds you, run immediately as it is an insta-kill spell unless you have fire or death spell immunity. She is easier for arcane spellcasters than melee characters. At level 15, defeating her yields 86 XP.
- 17Search the western end of the tomb. In the south-west corner room, find the Tome of Power in a sarcophagus.
- 18Head to the two north-west corner rooms and fight an Iron Golem. To defeat it, destroy the four Glyph Generators in the room.
- 19After the Golem is defeated, search the two rooms in the corner and take the Gem of Misery and the Gem of Pain from the sarcophagi.
- 20Return to the room where the Star Sapphire is located. The pedestals have colored tablets, hinting at the required gem colors. You can leave the tablets in place.
- 21Place the gems into the pedestals to retrieve the Star Sapphire:
- South: Gem of Pain
- 22East: Gem of Honor
- 23West: Gem of Misery
- 24North: Gem of Duty
Tips
- Husher sells +3 armor and weapons.
- The dwarf Barun can forge magical equipment. He provides a book with forging recipes, similar to one received in Chapter One. Magical weapons have at least a +1 Enhancement Bonus; +3 is ideal. Forging costs 20,000 - 150,000 gold per weapon. Persuade and Appraise skills are not useful for forging costs.
