Walkthrough
  1. 1
From Vermillion City, head north towards the tunnel entrance to Diglett's Cave. You cannot enter Diglett's Cave yet.
  2. 2
To the left of the tunnel entrance, battle Coach Trainer Will, who uses a Level 21 Rattata. Fighting-type moves are recommended. He rewards you with 5 Partner Candies.
  3. 3
Head north-west to battle Youngster Eddie, who uses a Level 16 Poison-type Nidorino. Ground and Psychic-types are effective.
  4. 4
Proceed south-west to battle Sailor Dirk, who uses a Level 18 Water-type Poliwag and a Level 18 Fighting-type Machop. Flying, Psychic, or Fairy-types are good against Machop, while Electric-types are effective against Poliwag.
  5. 5
After defeating Dirk, move east to find a Super Potion between two patches of grass.
  6. 6
Head north to battle Gentleman Wilco, who uses a Level 18 Fire-type Vulpix. Water, Ground, or Rock-type moves are effective.
  7. 7
To Wilco's right, pick up the Lure from a patch of tall grass.
  8. 8
Engage Engineer Braxton to the south, who uses a Level 18 Electric-type Voltorb. Ground-types are strongly recommended.
  9. 9
Battle Engineer Bernie to the right, who uses a Level 18 Electric/Steel-type Magnemite and a Level 18 Electric-type Voltorb. Ground-types are effective against both, and Fire or Fighting-types are good against Magnemite.
  10. 10
Move east from the Engineers and find an X Defense between two patches of tall grass.
  11. 11
Head north-east to challenge Gamer Hugo, who uses a Level 26 Ground-type Diglett. Flying-types are highly recommended as Diglett's only move is Fissure, which cannot hit Flying-types.
  12. 12
Continue north-east to collect the Super Repel at the end of the northern path.
  13. 13
Go directly south to battle Sailor Yasu, who uses a Level 18 Water/Psychic-type Slowpoke. Electric or Dark-types are recommended.
  14. 14
Head to the south-east corner and enter the thin path below the fence.

Tips
  • Coach Trainer Will's Rattata can use Super Fang to halve your HP and Quick Attack to attack first. Fighting-type moves are effective.
  • Youngster Eddie's Nidorino is weak to Ground and Psychic-types.
  • Sailor Dirk's Poliwag is weak to Electric-types, and his Machop is weak to Flying, Psychic, or Fairy-types. Be wary of Hypnosis.
  • Gentleman Wilco's Vulpix is weak to Water, Ground, or Rock-type moves.
  • Engineer Braxton's Voltorb is weak to Ground-types. Watch out for Light Screen.
  • Engineer Bernie's Magnemite is weak to Ground, Fire, and Fighting-types. His Voltorb is weak to Ground-types. Watch out for Thunder Wave from Magnemite.
  • Gamer Hugo's Diglett knows Fissure, a powerful KO move. Flying-types are immune to Fissure.
  • Sailor Yasu's Slowpoke is weak to Electric, Dark, and Grass-types. Be cautious of Confusion.
