Master the Master Trainers in Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee! Learn strategies like Toxic/Protect spam, using Alolan forms, and candy boosting to overcome tough opponents.

Hey there! So you've beaten the main story and now you're ready to take on the ultimate challenge: the Master Trainers. These guys are no joke, often having Pokémon with perfect stats. But don't worry, I've got some tricks up my sleeve that'll help you take them down without breaking a sweat.

1. No Need to Play Fair

Honestly, the odds are usually stacked against you with these Master Trainers. Their Pokémon are often super-powered, even if yours is a higher level. But there's a super easy way to deal with most of them: Toxic and Protect/Substitute spam.

Here's the plan: hit 'em with Toxic to poison them, then just keep using Protect to block their attacks. If Protect starts to fail too often, you can switch to Substitute, which uses 25% of your Pokémon's HP to create a decoy. Just survive for about 6 turns, and the poison will do all the work for you! This might take a bit longer if they have moves that heal them, but it's usually a guaranteed win. You can teach all these moves via TMs, so check out the TM list if you need help finding them.

2. It Could Make Alola Difference

The rules say you have to use the same species of Pokémon, but they don't specify if it has to be the Kantonian form. This is where you can get clever! If you have an Alolan form Pokémon that has a type advantage or a better movepool, go for it. Just don't be silly and use an Alolan Vulpix against a Fire-type Vulpix, obviously!

Some really good Alolan forms to consider are:

  • Raichu: Its Psychic STAB can help against Electric-type matchups.
  • Grimer/Muk: Dark STAB is great for similar reasons.
  • Exeggutor: Its Dragon STAB is super effective, and it takes even less damage from opposing Exeggutors.

3. If All Else Fails, Rely on Hard Work

Sometimes, you just can't cheese your way to victory. In those cases, it's time to put in some serious work. While you might not need perfect IVs like the Master Trainers, getting your Pokémon to a high Level and feeding them stat-boosting candies makes a massive difference.

The absolute best way to do this is by building up a huge Catch Combo with the same Pokémon you're training. This nets you tons of experience points for your whole party and a boatload of candies. If you're catching the same species, you'll even get candies that boost all stats, like Courage Candy. Even if you're catching different Pokémon, you'll still get general stat-boosting candies, which are super useful!

4. Try to Plan Ahead with Evolutions

This isn't directly about winning a single battle, but more about efficiency. If you plan on training one Pokémon for multiple Master Trainer battles, it's way faster if you evolve it along the way. For example, if you're going after the Venusaur Master Trainer, start by training a Bulbasaur. Beat the Bulbasaur Master Trainer, then evolve it into Ivysaur to take on that trainer, and then finally evolve it into Venusaur for the last fight.

Just be careful with the Leveling! Make sure you leave enough Level-up opportunities so your Pokémon can actually evolve. You don't want to hit Level 99 with Bulbasaur and realize you can't evolve it into Venusaur. This isn't an issue for Pokémon that evolve with stones, but it's always good to double-check!
