Alright, let's get this done! You're on your way to take on the final Gym Leader, Giovanni, and you'll need a special item to progress: the Key Stone. Don't worry, it's not too far off.

Walkthrough

First things first, you'll need to head back to Route 21. This is the long sea route you traveled through earlier to get to Cinnabar Island. If you've forgotten, it's south of Pallet Town.

Make your way down Route 21, surfing on your partner Pokémon (or a Pokémon that knows Surf). Keep an eye out for wild Pokémon – they can be a bit tougher here.

Eventually, you'll reach Viridian City again. Head north from the Pokémon Center.

You'll find yourself in a familiar spot, but this time, there's a new path opening up. Follow it, and you'll encounter a trainer. Defeat them to proceed.

After the trainer, you'll see a small cave-like entrance. Head inside. This is where you'll find the Key Stone! Grab it – it's crucial for your battle with Giovanni and for Mega Evolution later on.

With the Key Stone in hand, you can now head back to the Viridian City Gym to challenge Gym Leader Giovanni.

Tips

Make sure your Pokémon are healed up before heading to Route 21. There are no Pokémon Centers along the way.
Stock up on Potions and Revives. The trainers on Route 21 and in Viridian City can be challenging.
If you're having trouble with the trainer before the cave, make sure your Pokémon are at a decent level and have type advantages if possible.

Finding the Key Stone allows you to challenge Gym Leader Giovanni and progress towards Mega Evolution.
