Walkthrough
  1. 1
You'll start heading west from the Underground Path entrance.
  2. 2
You'll encounter Picnicker Nancy. She's got a Level 15 Female Nidoran (Poison) and a Level 15 Jigglypuff (Normal/Fairy). For Nidoran, keep your Grass and Fairy-types away. Jigglypuff, with its new Fairy typing, is weak to Poison-types.
  3. 3
Next up is Camper Ricky. He has a Level 15 Sandshrew (Ground) and a Level 15 Male Nidoran (Poison). Don't use Electric-types against Sandshrew – it's immune! Grass or Water-types are your best bet. For Nidoran, the same advice as for Nidoran (female) applies.
  4. 4
After Ricky, head north towards Saffron City's southern gatehouse. You can't go in, but look up! On the left ramp, you'll find a Super Potion. On the right ramp, there's a hidden Rare Candy. Grab those!
  5. 5
Head west from the Camper and Picnicker duo. You'll find Gentleman Edward. He has a Level 15 Eevee (Normal). Eevee is pretty weak in its base form, so a strong Fighting-type Pokémon should make short work of it.
  6. 6
Head back towards the underground entrance and continue south. On the right side, you'll find Sailor Elijah. He's got a Level 16 Tentacool (Water/Poison). Since Tentacool is part Poison-type, Grass-types aren't ideal, but they'll still work. An Electric-type like Pikachu is a great choice here.
  7. 7
After Elijah, head west along the south side of the water. In the far corner, you'll find a Paralyze Heal. Might want to save this for the upcoming Electric Gym!
  8. 8
Continue south. You'll see two trainers, Picnicker Isabelle and Camper Jeff, standing on either side of the path leading out of the route. If you're feeling precise, you can actually walk right between them without battling, but you need to be perfectly centered.
  9. 9
Picnicker Isabelle has a Level 15 Charmander (Fire). Water, Rock, and Ground-types are your best bet here. Your partner Eevee can also use Bouncy Bubble to heal itself.
  10. 10
Camper Jeff has a Level 15 Bellsprout (Grass/Poison). Fire and Flying-types have the advantage. Your partner Eevee's Sizzly Slide will also be effective.
  11. 11
Once you're past them, you'll arrive in Vermilion City. Good job!
Tips
  • Watch out for Sandshrew's immunity to Electric-type moves when battling Camper Ricky.
  • Don't miss the Super Potion and Rare Candy hidden above the ramps near Saffron City's gatehouse.
  • If you're low on health or status conditions, consider battling some of the wild Pokémon or trainers here before proceeding to Vermilion City.
