Master Route 17 in Pokémon Black 2 and White 2! This guide covers wild Pokémon, trainer battles with Fisherman and Swimmer, and finding key items like Blue Shards and Dive Balls.

Alright, let's dive into the southern part of Route 17 in Pokémon Black 2 and White 2. This area is all about navigating the water, battling some trainers, and snagging a few useful items. We'll be using Surf quite a bit here, so make sure that HM is ready to go!

Wild Pokémon:

  • Surf: You'll encounter Frillish (Water/Ghost) most often, with Alomomola (Water) appearing frequently when the water ripples. Jellicent (Water/Ghost) is a rarer find in rippling water.
  • Super Rod: Horsea (Water) and Finneon (Water) are common catches. If you're fishing in rippling water, you might find Seadra (Water) or Lumineon (Water). Kingdra (Water/Dragon) is a very rare catch in rippling water.

Start by heading down the steps and onto the water. Use Surf to get into the deeper water, then immediately move onto the closest shallow area. You'll find a Fisherman here ready for a battle.

Trainer Battle: Fisherman

  • Feebas (Level 66, Water)
  • Finneon (Level 66, Water)
  • Lumineon (Level 66, Water)

After you defeat the Fisherman, make your way to the western side of this shallow area. Use your Dowsing MCHN to find a hidden Blue Shard. Once you've got it, Surf back to the shallows and then head north. There's another item waiting for you in the shallow water here – it's another Blue Shard!

Now, head to the south-west corner of this northern shallow and Surf west, then south. You'll encounter a Swimmer patrolling the water. Time for another battle!

Trainer Battle: Swimmer

  • Tentacool (Level 65, Water/Poison)
  • Huntail (Level 65, Water)

To the south, you'll see two currents flowing west. Pay close attention here: you want to take the upper current. If you take the lower one, you'll be sent to Route 18 prematurely, and we're not quite done with Route 17 yet. The upper current will take you to the correct spot.

After riding the current, you'll find yourself west of another female Swimmer. Go ahead and challenge her.

Trainer Battle: Swimmer

  • Clamperl (Level 65, Water)
  • Shellder (Level 65, Water)

Head east past her, making sure to avoid all the currents this time. You'll reach more shallow areas. Move onto them and grab the Dive Ball located to the north of a Fisherman. Then, it's time to battle him.

Trainer Battle: Fisherman

  • Krabby (Level 64, Water)
  • Qwilfish (Level 64, Water/Poison)
  • Kingler (Level 64, Water)

Once you've defeated this Fisherman, move out onto the water east of the shallows. Surf into the current and let it carry you back towards the male Swimmer you battled earlier. This time, take the bottom current flowing west. This current will deposit you near a beach, marking your arrival in Route 18. We'll need to pass through Route 18 to get back to the rest of Route 17, so let's head on over!
