Unlock and conquer Special 8-Crown, the ultimate challenge in Super Mario Land. Learn strategies, tips, and requirements to beat this difficult final course.
Walkthrough
- 1To unlock Special 8-Crown, you must:
- Collect all Star Coins from every course.
- 2Achieve a Golden Flag (reach the top of the Goal Pole) in every course.
- 3Complete every course with both Mario and Luigi.
- 4Recommendations before entering Special 8-Crown:
- Use Luigi: His longer hang time during jumps is advantageous, despite his slipperiness.
- 5Collect Statue Leaves: Go to Special World 8-1 and collect two Statue Leaves. Keep one to wear and one as a spare in your inventory. You must finish the course to keep them. If you take damage, you may need to replay 8-1 to get two leaves again.
- 6Save and Quit: Before entering Special 8-Crown, save and quit. This way, when you reload your save file after dying, you will reappear directly in front of the course entrance.
- 7Quit to Main Menu: To avoid returning to Special World 8-1 to recollect Statue Leaves after dying, quit to the main menu instead of restarting. Reloading your save file will place you in front of Special World 8-Crown as Statue Tanooki Mario with a spare Statue Leaf.
- 8Notes on Special 8-Crown:
- The level is very long; approach it with care and patience. Complacency leads to death.
- 9If you lose your primary Statue Leaf and need it, use your spare. Save the spare for when you are Small Luigi or for critical Statue Tanooki moments.
- 10There are no Star Coins in this course.
- 11There is no Checkpoint Flag. Dying means restarting the course from the very beginning. Be extremely careful.
- 12This walkthrough assumes you have a Statue Tanooki Suit available at all times, unless otherwise stated.
- 13Course Navigation:
- Move north-east and jump onto the first block. Take the left blue block (without the Hammer Bro.).
- 14Take a running jump and hover to skip the second Hammer Bro.
- 15A Boomerang Bro. will appear. Take the yellow block to your right and follow the blocks around to the end platform. Enter the first Warp Box.
- 16After warping, jump north onto the block, stomping the Goomba. Take a running jump off the north edge and hover to the next block. Drop onto the Goomba, stomp it, then jump and hover to the next platform. Stomp the Goomba on the jutting blocks.
- 17Take a running jump off the blue block, jump and hover as far as possible. Land on a used block, continue running, and immediately jump off it. Hover at the top of this second jump to reach the used blocks along the north wall. Run right until you reach the first Paragoomba.
- 18Jump and hover over the Paragoomba, then perform a large jump off it for extra height. Hover to the next Paragoomba, stomp it, and perform another large jump, hovering right to the blue platform with a Blokkablok.
- 19Defeat the Blokkablok by hitting its constituent brick and ? Blocks. Avoid its front and back. Stand on the used block with the coin where the Blokkablok was circling and jump north to another used block. Jump and hover to the next set of two used blocks, then to the next set. Hover until a Stingby moves underneath, then drop onto it to defeat it.
- 20Jump and hover to the next block, then to the larger wooden block. Jump and hover above the Toad, then drop onto it. Perform a large jump as if stomping an enemy to gain extra height. Hover onto the used blocks jutting out from the wall.
Tips
- Always try to have two Statue Leaves available.
- Utilize Luigi's longer jump hang time to cross large gaps.
- Patience is key; this level is designed to test your endurance and precision.
- Be mindful of enemy placement and attack patterns.
- If you lose your Statue Leaf, use your spare and then consider quitting to the main menu to reset your position and spare leaf.
