Part 9

Use binoculars to spot Toad on a mountaintop to your right. Zoom in, and he will throw down a Star Coin. Follow its trajectory to note its location.

Jump down and defeat the two Piranha Plants, then the Koopa Troopa, followed by two Biddybuds.

The first Star Coin is located above a Note Block to the left of the two Biddybuds. Jump onto the Note Block and press A as you land to jump higher and grab it.

Continue north to a Purple ? Block. Touching it teleports you to a secret area. Run to the rightmost ? Block and repeatedly hit it for an unlimited amount of coins until time runs out, then you will teleport back.

Move right and defeat three Biddybuds. Ahead, you will encounter a stack of five Para-Biddybuds with two more on either side. For an extra 1-Up, try defeating all Para-Biddybuds without touching the ground by bouncing from one to the next.

Further on, you will find the first Switchboard, a green board with directional arrows. Hop onto the further side and let the Switchboard move you to the other side, collecting coins. Grab the Checkpoint (an auto-save point you restart from on death) Flag (a marker indicating progress).

Ahead are two Venus Fire Traps (Piranha Plants that spit fire). Stomp them. You can also Ground Pound (slam downwards) the tree stumps. Ground Pounding the close-right stump twice produces a Tanooki Leaf. Ground Pounding the further stump produces three coins.

Continue right onto the wooden platforms. Defeat the Piranha Plant. Jump from the platform left of the Rainbow Note Block onto it. Press A as you land to launch into a bonus area. Hit the ? Block, grab the Super Star, and defeat the two Biddybuds and three Para-Biddybuds. Grab the Green Clock and collect all coins. Time your jump to defeat all three Para-Biddybuds at once. At the end of this bonus run, jump off the clouds to grab the second Star Coin. You will fall to the ground unharmed.

To get the third Star Coin, do not jump down from the platform. Instead, ride the clouds left. Hop on the bottom cloud and jump through the red ring to spawn five red coins that must be collected within a time limit. Collect them, and a 1-Up will spawn and move right. Jump onto the right platform immediately after collecting the last coin (top right) to reach it before it falls off.

Continue left until you are back in the area where you ground pounded the stumps. Move north. Jump onto the cloud platform, then right, then down onto the next one. If you have Tanooki Mario, just before the current cloud platform moves right, jump down towards the Star Coin. Another cloud platform will move underneath it. This is your only chance to get this Star Coin; if you miss it, you must purposely kill yourself to restart at the Checkpoint Flag and recollect the second Star Coin.

Jump down to the stone platform under the cloud platform, which contains a red Biddybud. Ride the Switchboard across. Stand in the center and jump as you pass the ? Blocks to grab a coin from each.

At the end of the Switchboard ride, jump onto the small wooden platforms. If you have a Tanooki Suit, jump down and hover just before landing to ensure you are heading in the correct direction. To get the 1-Up from the pole, run and jump from the lower wooden platform straight for the Goal Pole.
