Defeat Pom Pom: When running from Pom Pom's shell attacks, zigzag on the Donut Blocks to avoid trapping yourself. Do not stand still on Donut Blocks for too long.

Collect Coins and Reach Warp Pipe: After defeating Pom Pom, grab any coins that don't fall off the edge. Run to the Warp Pipe and enter.

Reach Goal Pole: You will appear left of the Goal Pole. Run right and jump onto the platform behind the flag. Hit the hidden Large ? Block behind the flag (indicated by its shadow) for three coins. Drop down, run right up the steps, hit the Large ? Block, and hop onto the roof. Grab the coins, then jump from the Large ? Block to land on top of the Goal Pole. This completes half of the Special Worlds and grants a 1-Up.

Special World 5 Overview: The map shows the layout of Special World 5, including levels 5-1 through 5-5, a Mystery Box (MB), and the Castle (Ca).

Special World 5-1: Run forward and hit the right brick block for a coin. Hop up the ledge.

Flip-Switch Panels: When you jump, the panels switch. Blue panels facing up will switch to red, and vice-versa. To progress, you'll need to time your jumps to land on the correct panels while avoiding Boos.

Navigating Boos: Boos chase you when you face away from them. Facing them stops their pursuit.

First Star Coin (Special World 5-1): Use the blocks to reach the small platform left of the first Flip-Switch Panel. Ensure blue panels face up before jumping. Jump from the platform to grab the Star Coin to your right. Fall onto the red panel below.

Continue through 5-1: Jump right onto the first blue panel. Run two panels north, then jump one panel right. Jump one panel north, avoiding the Boo. Jump one panel right and hit the Warp Box.

Checkpoint Flag: After warping, run north and hit the Checkpoint Flag.

Second Star Coin (Special World 5-1): Jump up the steps. If red panels are up, jump while stationary to switch them to blue. Jump north-east to the first red panel. Run one panel north, then jump north-east to the blue panel, avoiding the Spiked Ball. Run north onto the platform. Hop right one step, then jump diagonally north-west to the platform there. Run west, dodging Spiked Balls. The Star Coin is at the north-west corner of this platform. Dodge the Spiked Balls to grab it and run back.
