Lariat

Unlocking Lariat: Lariat is unlocked through the grappling or unarmed combat skill tree, specifically within the Blue Stamina skill tree. It is available to brawler characters and is a wrestling-style ability. Observation Learning can be used to unlock Lariat variants by observing elite grunt enemies that perform charging attacks in camps.

Base Functionality: The base version of Lariat involves Macduff charging forward with an outstretched arm, clotheslining everything in his path with brutal momentum. When enemies are caught, they become briefly staggered, creating a window for follow-up combos like Body Slam or Falling Palm.

Upgrades: Upgraded iterations add a second sweeping return arc. At full upgrade, Lariat gains a brief knockdown effect instead of just stagger. The upgrade path through Abyss Artifact investment can unlock a momentum mechanic where the distance traveled before contact increases damage. At its highest tier, Lariat can break through enemy Super Armor, interrupting boss attacks without a Parry window.

Strategic Use: Lariat excels in crowd-control, especially against groups of lighter enemies or humanoid foes in narrow corridors. It pairs well with abilities like Nature's Snare to immobilize targets before charging, or Mantle of Frost to freeze enemies. Experienced players use it to break enemy formations and pivot into AOE follow-ups.

Combos: Lariat can be used as a charge move to close distance, then followed with Grapple or Body Slam for a wrestling combo chain. It sets up ground-and-pound attacks. A powerful sequence involves using Charge to close distance, transitioning into Lariat for the momentum bonus, and then chaining into Body Slam.
