Learn how to get rare hold items in Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon using the Thief move and the Compound Eyes ability. Includes a list of rare items and their locations.

This guide provides tips for obtaining rare hold items from wild Pokémon in Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. It covers preparation, the S.O.S. battle method, and a list of rare items.

Preparation:

  1. Have a Pokémon that knows the move Thief or Covet. These moves allow you to steal an item from a wild Pokémon.
  2. (Optional but recommended) Have a Pokémon with the ability Compound Eyes. This ability increases the chance of a wild Pokémon holding an item. Butterfree, which can learn Thief, is a good option.

S.O.S. Battle Method:

  1. Go to the location of the Pokémon you want to obtain an item from. For example, Jangmo-o in Vast Poni Canyon for a Razor Claw.
  2. Initiate a wild Pokémon encounter and use False Swipe to weaken it.
  3. Use an Adrenaline Orb to increase the chance of the wild Pokémon calling for help.
  4. Do NOT inflict a status condition on the wild Pokémon, as this will prevent it from calling for help.
  5. Once another Pokémon appears (S.O.S. battle), ensure your Thief user is not holding an item.
  6. Spam the Thief move on the called Pokémon to attempt to steal its held item. The game will notify you if you are successful.
  7. If the wild Pokémon uses Struggle, or if you need to continue the chain, you may need to switch to another Pokémon.
  8. If you don't get the item, repeat Step 2. Having a Pokémon with Compound Eyes significantly speeds up this process.
