Master the Lush Jungle Trial 4 in Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon! Learn Lurantis's weaknesses, ally strategies, and the best moves to use for victory.

Alright, welcome to Trial 4 in the Lush Jungle! This one's a bit of a curveball because the main Pokémon you'll face, Lurantis, isn't what you'd expect. It looks like a Bug-type, but nope, it's pure Grass-type. Don't let its decent stats fool you; its Speed is its main weakness, but it gets a huge boost at the start of the battle, so you can't just outspeed it easily. Your best bets for super-effective moves are Fire, Flying, Bug, and Poison types.

Lurantis has a couple of nasty tricks up its sleeve. It'll hit you with the Bug-type X-Scissor and the Fighting-type Low Sweep, which can also slow you down. If it's really pressed, it can use Solar Blade right away thanks to a Power Herb, and it can heal itself with Synthesis. Keep an eye out for its ally, too. It could be Kecleon, which is super annoying because it changes type based on the move it's hit with. Kecleon might use Ancient Power or Screech to lower your Defense. Or, it could be Comfey, a Fairy-type that'll heal Lurantis with Floral Healing and buff its Defense with Flower Shield. Both allies can also use Sunny Day, which is a big deal. It lets Lurantis use Solar Blade without charging (even after the Power Herb is gone) and makes Synthesis heal way more. But hey, Sunny Day also boosts Fire-type moves, so it's a double-edged sword!

Strategy for Victory:

  • The Ideal Approach: Bring a strong Fire-type Pokémon. Seriously, it's your best friend here. If you're worried about taking hits, use a X Defense or Roto Boost on the first turn. Then, use Flame Charge (you get this from Colress) to not only deal damage but also guarantee your Fire-type is faster than Lurantis.
  • Dealing with the Ally: Once Lurantis calls its ally, they'll probably use Sunny Day. This is your cue! If you have a Fire-type Z-Move ready, unleash it when Sunny Day is up. If your Pokémon is strong enough, this could be an instant KO. After that, just mop up the remaining ally Pokémon.
  • The Backup Plan: No Fire-type? No problem! Grab an Arbok from the Route 8 trade. Its moves aren't great, but you can use Glare to paralyze Lurantis and its ally. This cripples their Speed and can make them miss turns. Just remember, if it's sunny, Lurantis can't be paralyzed.
  • Using Arbok Effectively: If you're struggling with Lurantis's damage, keep switching Arbok in to use Intimidate. This lowers both Pokémon's Attack stats. Alternatively, use an X Defend or Roto Boost if you need to survive.

After you've finally taken down Lurantis and its buddy, Kukui will show up with your reward: TM67 Smart Strike. Then, you'll be sent back outside to Route 5. Great job, you've cleared Trial 4!
