Preparation for Breeding

Learn the essential steps for preparing to breed Pokémon in Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, from catching the right Pokémon to perfecting IVs and Egg Moves.

So, you're ready to dive into the wonderful world of Pokémon breeding in Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon? It can seem a bit daunting at first, but don't worry, I'll walk you through it! Think of it like this: you've got your Ditto and Abra ready to go, and you're looking to make some perfect little Pokémon. Here's the general game plan:

1. Catch the Pokémon you want to breed

First things first, you need the Pokémon you actually want to breed! Use methods like S.O.S. Chaining and Synchronize to snag a Pokémon that fits what you're looking for. Ideally, you want to lock in its Nature and Ability, especially if it's a Hidden Ability. This is also your prime opportunity to catch any Pokémon needed to pass down specific Egg Moves, if that's something you're aiming for.

2. Lock the nature

You've hopefully already caught a Pokémon with the Nature you want using Synchronize, or you can use one of your many Ditto holding an Everstone. From this point on, make sure one of the parents is always holding the Everstone to pass down that desired Nature.

3. Breed Egg Moves

Getting Egg Moves locked in is super straightforward and can be done either during or after you've sorted out the Nature and Ability. As long as the Pokémon carrying the Egg Moves is part of the breeding pair, the offspring will inherit them. Easy peasy!

4. Perfect the IVs

This is where the Destiny Knot comes into play, and you'll start working on improving those Individual Values (IVs). Be prepared to swap out parents quite a bit during this stage. If the idea of Pokémon breeding feels a bit... close for comfort, maybe don't dwell on it too much! This is the final step, done after everything else is set and your Nature and Egg Moves are locked in. Perfecting IVs is largely down to luck, so this is where your patience will really be tested.

5. EV train and level up and you’re finished!

Once you've got your perfect IVs, you'll then EV train your Pokémon and level them up. And voilà, you're done with the breeding process!
