Learn how to breed a Naive Kommo-o with 6 perfect IVs and Soundproof Ability in Pokémon USUM. Includes EV training and Egg Move details.

This guide details how to breed a competitive Kommo-o in Pokémon USUM, focusing on Nature, Ability, Egg Moves, IVs, and EVs.

Nature and Ability Selection

First, decide on a Nature and Ability. For Kommo-o, a Naive nature is recommended to boost Speed (base 85) and lower Special Defense, as Clangorous Soulblaze boosts Speed. The available Abilities are Soundproof (protects against sound-based attacks like Boomburst and Perish Song), Bulletproof (shields against damaging attacks like Aura Sphere), and Overcoat (shields from weather damage and Powder-based moves). This guide will use Soundproof for resistance to Perish Song and Clanging Scales.

Egg Moves

Kommo-o can learn Counter, Reversal, and Dragon Breath as Egg Moves, none of which are considered particularly useful.

To start, catch or breed a Jangmo-o that is Naive with your desired Ability. For an Overcoat Jangmo-o, an S.O.S. Chain is required.

IV Breeding

The goal is to achieve six perfect IVs. This process can take over 100 eggs. Use a 4IV Ditto to gradually improve Jangmo-o’s IVs. If you obtain two Jangmo-o’s with overlapping 4-5 perfect IVs (one male, one female), have one hold an Everstone and the other a Destiny Knot to improve egg frequency. Patience is key, as achieving 6 perfect IVs can be time-consuming.

EV Training

EV training can be done via Isle Evelup or by battling wild Pokémon. At Isle Evelup, level 3 drinks provide 4 EVs each, requiring 63 drinks (16.5 hours with Pokebeans) to max a stat. Battling wild Pokémon is faster but requires attention. Using Power Items and Pokerus significantly speeds up EV training.

For a mixed Kommo-o, focus on Attack for Close Combat and Special Attack for Clanging Scales. The recommended EV spread is 252 EVs in Speed, 252 EVs in Special Attack, and the remaining 6 EVs in Attack (252/252/6).

To train Speed EVs, battle Alolan Diglett in dust clouds on Route 5 via S.O.S. Chaining. In Ultra Moon, Alolan Rattata in Verdant Cavern can be chained instead. For Special Attack EVs, chain Zorua or Magnemite at Trainer’s School, or battle Petilil in rustling bushes in Poni Plains (Ultra Moon).

To complete the Attack EVs, use Poke Pelago or fight Crabrawler under Berry Trees. Ultra Sun players can fight Yungoos in Verdant Cavern. Pikipek, Lillipup, Mudbray, Yungoos, and Grubbin on Route 4 are also options. The game caps EVs at 252 per stat, simplifying the process.
