A New Companion

Learn how to recruit the mysterious Ringabel to your party in Bravely Default. Discover his unique journal and how it can help you on your quest.

After you've gotten a handle on the basics of magic, your next immediate goal is to head back to the palace and report your findings to the king. He'll commend Tiz and Agnes for their efforts against the Eternians, but unfortunately, the conflict isn't over. The remaining Eternian forces have retreated to their stronghold at Lontano Villa. The king will advise you to rest up at the inn while the bridge to the villa, which is currently in disrepair, gets fixed.

During the night, Agnes will wake Tiz to inform him about trouble in town. You'll discover that Eternian forces have set a house on fire and are threatening the citizens to hand over Agnes. However, internal conflict among the Eternians leads to their withdrawal. The next day, Owen informs Tiz and Agnes that the fire-starters are at Centro Keep, north of Caldisla. Agnes, ever eager to confront the enemy, wants to march there immediately. Just then, a mysterious man appears – he has lost all his memories but carries a journal that seems to predict the future. Intrigued by an entry in his journal, he asks to join Tiz and Agnes on their journey to the keep. Agnes is hesitant, but Tiz agrees, recognizing the need for any extra help. Thus, the man, who goes by the name Ringabel, joins your growing party.

With Ringabel now part of your team, your battle options expand further. A good recommendation is to switch Ringabel to the Monk job so Tiz can continue learning Freelancer abilities. However, the choice is entirely yours. Remember to check and update your equipment after changing jobs, as certain jobs, like Monk, might perform better unarmed initially. It's also a good idea to purchase better gear for Ringabel before you set off for Centro Keep.

Return to Caldisla

Before heading to the lake, gear up in Caldisla! Learn what to buy at the armory and trader, and how to equip your new gear to face the Eternian forces.

Alright, so the immediate problem is that Eternia's causing trouble in Caldisla, and Agnes is being super stubborn about handling it all by herself. Looks like we've gotta go chase after her!

Once you're outside the palace, Tiz will catch up to Agnes. Since her sense of direction is, well, terrible, she'll have to rely on Tiz to get her to the Eternian forces. Glad that little argument is sorted! If you've been keeping up, your next stop is the lake southwest of Caldisla.

But hey, before we charge headfirst into enemy territory, it's a really good idea to get properly equipped. Just south of the palace, you'll spot the weapon shop – it's got that sword and shield icon on the bottom screen. Hopefully, you've managed to save up some cash from your trip to the ravine, enough for some better gear at least.

For now, focusing on defense is probably the way to go. The best weapon available, the Broadsword, isn't a huge upgrade over what you're currently using. So, grab two Bucklers, a couple of Bronze Helms, a Linen Cuirass, and maybe a Bronze Gauntlet or Bangle.

To equip all this, just hit START, SELECT, or X to open the main menu, then go to “Equip.” Remember, shields can be equipped in your other (left) hand for that extra defense!

Next up, head left to find the Trader. They've got all your essential healing items like Potions and Phoenix Downs. Stock up on Potions if you feel you need them; 10 should be a good amount to carry for now. After that, spend a night at the inn to fully recover your health, and then we can leave Caldisla.
