Sub-Scenario: Merchant Asterisk

Learn the best strategy to defeat Erutus Profiteur and Khint in Bravely Default. This guide covers their weaknesses, HP, and effective tactics to win the fight.

Stats / Weaknesses:

• Level: 15
• HP: 6000 (Profiteur), 5000 (Khint)
• Weak to: Nothing

Phases:

1. Khint is present. Don't attack him unless absolutely necessary, as he will abandon Profiteur partway through the fight.
2. Khint departs. Profiteur continues the fight alone. His attack pattern does not change.

Strategy:

• Profiteur has a tendency to Default, which signals he's about to use Takeover twice on the following turn. This attack deals exactly 300 damage, which can easily KO party members if their HP is below 600.
• The key to this battle is maintaining high HP. Use Potions or the Cure ability frequently to ensure your party can survive Takeover.
• Stocking up on Phoenix Downs from shops is also a wise precaution, just in case a KO does occur.
• When you anticipate Profiteur using Takeover twice (indicated by his Defaulting), it's your turn to go on the offensive. Have your characters attack, and use a group-cast Cure spell to heal up any damage taken.
• Don't bother Defaulting yourself when Profiteur is about to use Takeover, as it won't reduce his damage output. You can afford to spam weaker attacks like Stomp, but be mindful of Khint's own attacks during this phase.
• Once Khint leaves, Profiteur's attack pattern remains the same. Just keep up your defensive and offensive efforts.

After the battle, Ringabel discovers another note about Ancheim. You'll learn that something special happens if you visit the Grand Mill Works at night. However, if you're following the guide chronologically, you likely won't be able to access the Grand Mill Works yet. It's best to return to the main story for now. Before leaving Profiteur's room, make sure to search it thoroughly to find a Gold Hourglass and a Teleport Stone.
