A Candle in the Storm Walkthrough

Speak with Menella at the Volcano Island Camp: This quest becomes available after completing 'Shadowed Prayers.' Find Menella next to the Volcanic Island Armory shop in the camp.

Question Herman at the Bakbattahl Gaol: Return to the Bakbattahl Gaol and question the brigand prisoner, Herman. You must pay a 5000 gold bribe to get useful information. After he reveals the plot, return to Menella. She will inform you of a plot to assassinate Empress Nadinia and that she has secured the Empress at a secret location.

Visit Ashe in the Bakbattahl Gaol: To draw out the betrayer, pretend to be allied with the Coral Snakes. Go back to the Bakbattahl Gaol and tell Ashe, another Coral Snake prisoner, a false location for the Empress, claiming you have her in custody. This will convince Ashe to pass the information to their contact.

Report Back to Ser Menella: Go to the westernmost entrance of Bakbattahl. Menella will meet you and explain the next phase. She will then direct you to the secret location where Empress Nadinia is being kept safe, northwest of Bakbattahl. The location is a house built into a rocky outcrop and can be difficult to spot.

Support or Oppose the Empress’s Proposal?: Upon entering the secret location, you'll witness a discussion between Menella and Empress Nadinia. Menella suggests using a body double, but the Empress insists on being present. You must choose whether to support or oppose the Empress's proposal. Supporting it is strongly recommended for better rewards.

Outcome 1: Support Empress Nadinia’s Proposal: If you support the Empress, the Coral Snakes contact will recognize her. They will ask you to kill the Empress. Perform one basic attack on her (avoiding the contact) to prove your loyalty. The contact will explain their motives, and Menella will enter, leading to the contact's arrest. The contact is revealed to be Ser Irmhild, a pledged protector.

Outcome 2: Oppose Empress Nadinia’s Proposal: If you oppose the Empress, the contact will immediately realize a body double is being used and flee, ordering Coral Snakes to attack. You must defeat the Coral Snakes and protect Menella. Afterward, attack Ser Irmhild to expose her. Menella and the Empress will identify Irmhild as the mastermind, but she will kill herself before revealing her motives.
