First things first, head east from Vernworth. Keep following the main road until you cross a bridge over some water. This leads you into a new part of Vermund.

Continue on the main road. You'll eventually hit a point where the path is blocked by a huge boulder in a chasm. You'll need to do some climbing to get over it. Keep your wits about you, because there's an ogre waiting around here to fight.

As you get closer to the village from the west, you'll meet a guy named Srail. He looks like a merchant, but he's just trying to get you to turn back. Don't listen to him! Head into the village proper where you'll find a real merchant. It's a good spot to offload any loot you've picked up and maybe grab some better gear.

Now, for a key item: the Folded Letter. You'll find this inside a house known as Darragh's home. It's pretty important for the quest, so make sure you grab it.

With the letter in hand, head west from Darragh's home and follow the path as it curves north towards the Old Noble Manor. You can check out the side rooms, and then you'll want to talk to Flaude, who's chilling by the fireplace. He's a Thief-Maister and will teach you some thief skills. He's not super chatty about the false Sovran, though.

To keep the False Sovran quest moving, you need to find the Nameless Village Depths. Head outside the Old Noble Manor and look for a ladder on the northwest side that goes down into a hole. Your pawns might point it out, but it's pretty easy to spot.

Once you climb down, your pawns will stay on the surface, so you're on your own. A short scene will play, showing you an obstacle course. This part can be tricky and might take a few tries. It's also a good idea to have full health, maybe from resting at an inn, because falling could be deadly.

The first challenge involves balancing platforms that act like scales. You'll need to stand in the right spot, jump, and balance the board to get to the next platform while avoiding obstacles. The later platforms are similar but have more stuff to dodge.

The principle is the same for the last two platforms, but they're a bit higher, so factor that into your jumps. On the highest platform, stand in the center and get ready for the final jump. You'll need to time it right to avoid swinging rocks. Wait until they start moving left, then make your jump, and you should be good.

After you nail the obstacle course, just follow the path. You'll find a secret room where Srail, the guy who told you to turn back earlier, is waiting. Turns out he's the leader of a thief group. He'll congratulate you on passing their trial and let you ask him questions. Once you're done, head back to Captain Brant in Vernworth to finish the False Sovran quest.

Tips

Make sure to sell any unwanted items to the merchant in the Nameless Village to free up inventory space and make some Gold.
The obstacle course in the Depths requires precise timing and movement. Don't be afraid to use healing items or spells if your health gets low.
After completing the Depths trial, remember to return to Captain Brant to progress the main quest.
