How Fast Travel Works

Alright, so getting around in Dragon's Dogma 2 can feel a bit daunting at first, but there are actually two main ways to zip across the map: Oxcarts and Ferrystones with Portcrystals. Think of them as your main travel buddies, but they've got some quirks you'll want to know about.

Both methods are pretty limited, mostly sticking to the big cities in Vermund and Battahl. Don't expect to fast travel directly to every little village, ruin, or boss arena you stumble upon. For those off-the-beaten-path spots, you'll usually need to rely on placing your own Portcrystals, but those things are rare and pricey, so you won't have a ton of them.

How to Fast Travel by Oxcart

First up, the Oxcart. You'll find these stops in major towns like Melve, Venworth, the Checkpoint Rest Town, and Bakbattahl. If it's not morning yet, just hang out by the sign until the sun comes up. Once it's morning, you can hop on the next available oxcart for a small fee in Gold.

Now, Oxcarts aren't exactly instantaneous. You'll be sitting there for the whole ride, which can be upwards of 30 minutes sometimes, unless you choose to doze off. Be warned though, if you doze, monsters might attack mid-journey! You'll have to wake up and defend the cart. If the cart gets flipped or destroyed, you're hoofing it the rest of the way.

How to Fast Travel with Portcrystals

This is your more direct fast travel method, but you'll need a Ferrystone in your inventory. Pop one and a menu will appear, letting you choose any Portcrystal you've already discovered or placed. There are a few set ones in places like Venworth and Harve Village.

The real magic is placing your own Portcrystals. Ideally, you'll want to set one up in a major hub like Bakbattahl, another in the northern part of Vermund, and maybe one on the Volcanic Island down south. But hey, it's your game, your world – place them wherever makes sense for your adventures!
