Learn how Nakama (demons) gain levels, learn new skills, and mutate in Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne HD Remaster. Discover stat gains and skill upgrades.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
HP/MP/Stat Gain: Upon leveling up, Nakama gain HP and MP based on their Vitality and Magic stats, respectively. One random stat will increase by one point, often accentuating their strengths.
  2. 2
Gaining New Skills: For each level gained, Nakama will usually learn a new, preset skill. You can check the status screen to see what skill they will learn next. Some Nakama may require two levels to learn a new skill.
  3. 3
Self-Altering Skills: Nakama may attempt to transform a skill into a more powerful one. You must give permission. There is a 50% chance of success. If it fails, the skill changes to a random skill from the next higher rank. Failure is 100% if the demon has already successfully powered up a skill or already possesses the target skill.
  4. 4
Gifts: There is approximately a 20% chance per level-up that a Nakama will give you a gift, ranging from items like Dis-Poison to Somas and Incense. The chance may increase with a greater disparity between your level and the Nakama's level.
  5. 5
Mutations: Predetermined demons can mutate into a new, more powerful form after reaching max level and learning all available skills. Using a "Kugatachi Water" on a demon reveals if it can mutate and when. A demon can only mutate if the Hero's level is high enough, typically within 3-5 levels above the Hero. Some mutated forms appear as bosses and cannot join until defeated or the point in the game where they would have been fought is passed.
