Ongyoki is one of the four Oni led by Fujiwara Chikata, a legendary figure from Japanese history. Chikata was from a powerful family and is said to have started a revolt against the emperor. The Kanji for Ongyoki, "隠形鬼", translates to "Concealed-Form-Oni," reflecting his powers of invisibility and creating illusory copies of himself. Some believe Ongyoki inspired the modern depiction of the ninja.
