Description:

Bishamonten is a guardian Bodhisattva within Buddhism, originally named Tamonten (or Kuvera from Hinduism). He is one of the Shiten-O (Four Kings) and one of the Hachibushu, the eight guardian deities/Bodhisattvas that defend the Dharma. Under orders from Taishakuten, he guards the North. He gained popularity as a war god among the Bushi in Japan after Prince Shotoku prayed to him for victory.
