How to Unlock the Loom

Alright, so you've probably heard about the Loom and how important it is for making your gear even better. It's not something you get right away, even after you've unlocked the Room of Requirement. You'll need to push through a couple more quests first.

Specifically, you'll need to finish up 'The Helm of Urtkot'. After that, the quest 'The Elf, the Nab-Sack and the Loom' will become available. This is where things get interesting! You'll be doing a bunch of beast-related tasks, which means catching them and bringing them back to your vivarium. Once you've wrangled those creatures, Deek will finally tell you all about the Loom. Your first step is to use your Conjuring Spell to place the Loom right there in your Room of Requirement.

The Loom is a game-changer for your gear! It lets you do two main things: upgrade your equipment and apply special traits to them, provided they have the slots available. Upgrades will give your gear a nice boost to offense and defense stats. Traits, on the other hand, add unique properties – think increased defense against a specific enemy type or a damage buff when you use Incendio. Both upgrades and traits will chew through Beast materials, so the more variety of beasts you have in your Vivarium, the better!

Since upgrading and applying traits uses up resources, it's a good idea to be a bit selective. If you've got a legendary piece of gear that's already super strong, that's definitely a prime candidate for an upgrade. Just remember, not all gear is created equal when it comes to traits. Some gear will have slots for higher-tier traits, while others might not have any slots at all. You can't apply traits to gear that doesn't have slots, and you can't put a trait in a slot that's higher than the gear's assigned tier. If you decide you want to swap out a trait that's already in a slot, you can do that too, but it'll cost you a bit more at the Loom.

Oh, and here's a pro-tip: you'll unlock more traits by completing enemy challenges. You can also stumble upon these traits in bandit camps and other enemy encampments out in the world. Keep an eye out!
