How to Perform Stealth Takedowns with Disillusionment in Hogwarts Legacy

Alright, so you want to get good at those sneaky takedowns in Hogwarts Legacy, huh? It’s all about using the right spells at the right time. The main way to do this is with the Disillusionment spell. You’ll actually get this one automatically during the main quest called Secrets of the Restricted Section, thanks to Sebastian. You’ll use it right away in that quest to sneak around, but it’s super useful after that too.

Think of Disillusionment like a stealth mode button. It makes you harder for enemies to spot, especially from a distance. Just remember, it’s not perfect! If an enemy is looking right at you, especially if you’re too close, they can still spot you. So, the key is to approach from behind while you’re under its effect.

Once you’re close enough to an enemy’s back without them noticing you, you’ll see a prompt – usually it’s the / key on PC, but it’ll be whatever your controller’s prompt is. This is when you cast Petrificus Totalus. This spell is basically your stealth takedown move. It’s pretty wild that you don’t learn it like other spells, and it only works when you’re hidden and behind an enemy. But hey, it works! It takes out most enemies instantly and quietly, so they’re out of the fight. Just be aware that if other enemies see one of their buddies suddenly disappear, they might come to investigate, so be ready to keep moving if you want to stay hidden.

Now, there’s also the Invisibility Potion. It’s kind of like Disillusionment but way more powerful – it makes you totally invisible. This is great for ditching enemies if they’re already onto you, but the effect doesn’t last long. So, it’s better for escaping than setting up a stealth takedown. You can buy these potions from J. Pippin’s Potions in Hogsmeade for a whopping 500 Galleons each. Ouch! A better long-term option is to buy the recipe for 800 Galleons and brew them yourself. You’ll need ingredients like Leaping Toadstool Caps (easy to find in forests), Knotgrass Sprig (you can grow this after buying seeds for 350 Galleons), and Troll Bogeys (you get these from defeating trolls). Brewing your own is definitely the way to go if you plan on using invisibility a lot, but for general sneaking around, the Disillusionment spell is usually your best bet.
