As you approach the first intersection, run ahead and stand in the path that splits off to the left. By blocking his way, you'll force the Chain Chomp to take the other route.

Follow him up the path and repeat the process at the next intersection: stand in the path going left to make him go the other way.

At the next road split, you'll want to steer him left. To do this, stand in the road that's heading downwards, which will make him choose the path to your right.

Now, you need to be quick! Run past the Chain Chomp as he's about to turn and position yourself to the left of the entrance to the bath area.

When the Chain Chomp reaches the bath, he'll actually turn around and start heading back along the path. Don't let him get too far! Quickly press Y to grab onto the end of his chain.

Use the chain to pull him backwards into the bath. Once he finally gets his bath, he'll transform into a shiny Golden Chomp!

Tips

Using barrels of water can also help temporarily calm the Chain Chomp.
Remember, if he's red and angry, he moves faster and you can't drag his chain. Keep him calm so you can maneuver him!
