Wyvern Lord

First, grab the bill for the Wyvern Lord from the Notice Board. Then, head to Amal’s Weaponry in Rabanastre to speak with the petitioner, Sherral.

Make your way to the Nam-Yensa Sandsea and head towards Simoon Bluff. The Wyvern Lord patrols the northern end of this area.

Since the Wyvern Lord flies, you'll need characters equipped with ranged weapons (like bows or guns) or those who can cast magic. Consider bringing Machinists, Archers, Red Battlemages, and Black Mages. A White Mage for healing is also a good idea. If you're doing this during your first visit to Rabanastre, Vossler can help with his Telekinesis technick.

The Wyvern Lord has a significant amount of HP (18,669), but its attack power isn't overwhelmingly high, and it doesn't have any devastating special attacks. However, it can chain attacks together, and its most dangerous ability is its Petrify attack, which can instantly turn your party members to stone.

To counter the Petrify, set up a Gambit like “Ally: any –> Golden Needle” on at least one character. This will automatically use the Golden Needle item when a party member is Petrified.

The Wyvern Lord can be put to Sleep and Immobilized. If you manage to Immobilize it, it becomes much easier to handle. If you put it to Sleep, you'll need to avoid physical attacks to prevent waking it up.

The Wyvern Lord is weak to Earth-elemental attacks and absorbs Wind. Use your strongest Earth magic or weapons against it.

You can steal a Yensa Scale, Crooked Fang, and Wyvern Wing from the Wyvern Lord. These are useful for Bazaar item bundles, but you'll find other ways to get them later.

Once you've defeated the Wyvern Lord, return to Sherral at Amal’s Weaponry in Rabanastre to claim your reward.
