Iconic weapons in Cyberpunk 2077 are unique variants of common weapons, distinguished by a bonus effect. Since patch 2.0, their status has been elevated, as many non-iconic legendary weapons lost their special properties. Previously, iconic weapons could be reforged to increase their quality tier and scale to your level. Now, weapons don't scale automatically, and rarities are replaced by tiers (common to Tier 1, uncommon to Tier 2, rare to Tier 3, epic to Tier 4, legendary to Tier 5). All gear can be upgraded, and it's no longer prohibitively expensive. Iconic weapons are now the only ones that can be upgraded to Tier 5++, offering higher stat caps and special properties, making them generally the best weapons in the game.

Iconic Weapons and Airdrops

Several iconic weapons can be found via airdrops, a gameplay mechanic unique to Dogtown. Periodically, a dropship flies overhead and discharges an airdrop, which can be spotted by the red smoke they emit. Head to the airdrop, dispatch any nearby enemies (some airdrops require platforming instead of combat), and loot the airdrop (some caches must be breached) to obtain the contents. You will likely receive items scaled to your level, including weapons and cyberware, some of which may be iconic. You might also get a carrying capacity shard. The exact items are random, so you may need to intercept numerous airdrops to find specific iconic weapons. Intercepting an airdrop is always worthwhile.

Agaou

To obtain the axe Agaou, clear the “Increased Criminal Activity” event near the Luxor High Wellness Spa in the eastern part of Dogtown, near the stadium. You will encounter Voodoo Boys, including their leader, Ayo Zarin. Defeat her to obtain this weapon. The Agaou emits a shockwave on critical hits when thrown, with a 9-second cooldown. Its melee stats are comparable to iconic katanas, and it has no mod slots.

Alabai

The Alabai, a power shotgun from the Techtronika series, can be found by intercepting airdrops. It is a random drop. The Alabai fires burning pellets that can set enemies on fire. Against burning enemies, you will always deal critical damage, with crit damage increasing based on the number of nearby burning enemies, at the cost of accuracy. It offers good damage, fast firing and reloading, a good clip size, and is a decent weapon overall, despite a somewhat low burn chance.

Cheetah

During the side job No Easy Way Out, you will be tasked with escorting Aaron to a Ripperdoc. You will confront Angie during this mission. While you can resolve the situation peacefully, you can also choose to fight Angie and defeat her to obtain her unique pistol, the Cheetah.
