Alright, so you're tackling the 'Taking French Leave' quest in Kingdom Come: Deliverance II. This one kicks off right after 'Via Argentum,' so make sure you've wrapped that up. Let's get you through it smoothly. ### Kuttenberg Phase First things first, head back to Ruthard Palace and have a chat with Ruthard. After that, Vavak will show up in the courtyard to confront you. If you can pass any of the checks here, you can settle things peacefully. If not, well, it's combat time. Either way, you'll end up with Vavak in hand. Ruthard will then tell you that Rosa knows about a secret passage. If you offer to fetch a book for Rosa, you'll start the 'Rosa's Book' task, which is also tied to romancing her. This book is a unique item only available during this quest. Rosa will then give you directions: head to a wayside shrine, then look towards the remains of a church. Through a window, you'll spot ruins with a cross. This cross points to another, which in turn points to your final destination – a flat area overlooking a spring. ### Countryside Phase Next up, you need to find Hashtal and convince him to lend you some horses for a quick escape. It doesn't seem to matter if you tell him about the secret passage or not. Follow Rosa's directions: leave Hashtal's, get on the main road, turn right, and head towards some boulders. Behind them, you'll see a window. Interact with it or crouch to look through and spot the ruins across a small valley. There's some hunting gear stashed there. On the front of the ruins, to the left from your viewpoint, you'll find a white cross on the ground pointing towards the spring. Follow it to find another cross near the spring, which will point you to the correct spot. This is a good time to change into your dirty clothes, as things are about to get muddy during the dig. Your companion, Mutt, will be dismissed for the rest of this quest automatically. Head through the tunnel. ### Maleshov Phase Once you emerge from the tunnel and head uphill, you'll trigger a cutscene where you'll overhear von Bergow, von Aulitz, and Erik. Try to resist the urge to drink any Nighthawk potion. A Quickfinger potion, however, can be really useful here. Hans Capon is in the central tower. You should be able to picklock most of the doors on your way. If not, go to the kitchen on the far side of the courtyard and either pickpocket or knock out the cook to get her keys. In the highest room of the tallest tower, you'll find Hans. Be extra careful near the tower entrance, take the right path, and wait for the two guards in the main room to sit down. You don't need to fight them; just sneak past them. They'll be asleep when you leave. On the next floor, in the room with Lady Ofka, you'll find Rosa's red book, the 'Book of Anecdotes', on the windowsill. You can knock Lady Ofka out, sneak past her by walking on the bed, or try talking to her. If you talk to her, you'll need to pass a hard charisma or medium intimidation check to stop her from alerting the guards. Bribing her won't work. She can also tell you where to find keys if you're struggling with hard locks. In her room, you can also grab a couple of swords to give to Hans and Brabant. Head upstairs and either unlock or picklock the doors to trigger a cutscene where you reunite with Hans. During the conversation, make sure to choose "We'll manage it together."
