Recruiting Byleth in Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes depends on the chosen route. Below are the specific steps for Scarlet Blaze and Azure Gleam.

How to Recruit Byleth in Scarlet Blaze

In Scarlet Blaze, Byleth can be recruited in Chapter 10: Shifting History.

Step 1: Obtain the “Resonant Lightning” Strategy

Before beginning the chapter’s Main Quest, obtain the Resonant Lightning Strategy by searching the tent surveying spot in Western Duval Territory on the War Map. When starting the Main Quest, enable the Resonant Lightning Strategy (costs 30 Strategy Resources) before entering the fight.

Step 2: Force the Baron to Surrender

When the fight begins, focus on seizing the strongholds surrounding Baron Mateus without killing him. If you succeed, the baron will surrender peacefully.

Step 3: Unleash Resonant Lightning

Next, seize the north-western strongholds. Soon after, three Sorcery Engineers will be attacked by Swordmasters in the same area. Hurry to rescue them, either by splitting your army or focusing on rescue first. Do not let the engineers get killed. Once all three are rescued, the Resonant Lightning Strategy prompt will appear. Activate it by holding the specified button.

Step 4: Defeat/Recruit Yuri

Byleth will spawn near the north-east, while Yuri spawns in the far west. Ignore Byleth for now. Gather most of your troops near the south-east corner. Use a lance user to head west and deal with Yuri. To recruit him, trigger the strategy to persuade him, then defeat him.

Step 5: Defeat Rodrigue Before Byleth Reaches Him

Afterwards, the eastern shoal bridge will be complete. Hurry to the enemy base via the east side of the map. Byleth will attempt to return to the enemy base but will be forced to take a longer route. Before Byleth reaches Rodrigue, you must first defeat Alois. A sword-wielder is preferred for this. After Alois retreats, the gate will open, allowing you to reach Rodrigue. Defeat Rodrigue with an axe user if possible. Your goal is to defeat Rodrigue before Byleth reaches him, and without defeating Byleth. Succeed, and Byleth will join you.

How to Recruit Byleth in Azure Gleam

In Azure Gleam, Byleth can be recruited in Chapter 12: A Trick of the Goddess, during the Main Quest battle [The Conquest of Hevring].

Step 1: Obtain the “Locate Ambushers” Strategy

Before beginning the chapter’s Main Quest, obtain the Locate Ambushers Strategy by searching the tent surveying spot in Menja Territory (south-west) on the War Map. When starting the Main Quest, enable the Locate Ambushers Strategy (costs 30 Strategy Resources) before entering the fight.

Step 2: Defeat the Vanguard and Secure Strongholds

When the battle begins, defeat the enemy vanguard outside your main camp. This includes a Trickster, Bow Knight, and two Wyvern Lords. Once they are defeated, strongholds to the north (Forest Lake Path) and west (Forest Camp) will open. Claim these strongholds and assign allies to defend them, as an enemy counterattack will come through them.

Step 3: Avoid the Ambushers

After defeating the vanguard and securing the strongholds, advance towards Randolph without being ambushed. Keep an eye out for the prompt to activate the Locate Ambushers Strategy and activate it when prompted. This will highlight ambush locations and show a safe route. You must reach your destination without any characters being spotted by the ambushers. Ensure allies are assigned to guard the strongholds or specific characters. Do not leave characters in the main base, as this will not prevent failure. Consider using a Bookmark Save if not playing on Classic Mode.
